What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?

Major - Admit Rate - Avg. GPA Admitted
Business Economics - 16.52% - 3.93
Economics - 12.59% - 3.91

Does this mean BizEcon possibly might be “easier” to get into than regular Econ this year? I haven’t taken the time to look through all the previous years, but I believe BizEcon has almost always had a lower admit rate than Econ. Am I the only one surprised by this?

Any thoughts?

I was shocked and surprised that the people couldnt get into russian studies, what on earth can you do with a russian studies major?

“Is it bad that I laughed when I read that 5 people applied for Russian Studies and none got in? Or the two that applied for Geophysics? If you applied for these majors and did not get in, I am truly sorry. Hehe.”

I do not know about Russian Studies but anyone graduating with degree Geophysics can expect multiple job offers starting at $80,000+ per year. The reason so few people major in it compared to things like Economics or Biology is not that it is a worthless degree, it is because it is so difficult, requiring advanced courses in Math, Physics and Geology.

Major - Admit Rate - Avg. GPA Admitted
Chinese - 39.47% - 3.55

My current GPA is “3.63”.

Still nervous…

For those concerned about high average GPA, consider this: average GPA does not take into account completion of prereqs, the other very important stat. So, having the average GPA for your major AND having completed all prereqs probably makes you a better than average applicant.

GPA higher than/equal to average, all prereqs done = strong chance
GPA slightly lower, all prereqs done = ok chance
GPA higher than/equal to average, not all prereqs = ok chance
GPA lower, not all prereqs = poor chance

@ChenJiaXing: I am in the same position as you, however my major (psych) is so much more impacted. Good luck! I hope you get in :]

@mmsiphone: Do you think I can get into psych (UCLA) with a 3.73-3.75?
I’ve done all the pre-reqs and completed IGETC.
STATS Fall 2011
Admitted: 3.81
Applied: 3.37

How much is the personal statement weighed?

@PsychBruin2012 They will read the personal statement, so…

if its bad, then it may hurt you.
if its good, then it may increase your chances.

I don’t know what your chances are with your major, since I have troubles figuring what are my chances as well…

But from the looks of it, the Psychology major is an impacted major with a very low admittance rate. All I can say is “good luck! Hope you get in :]”.

The personal statement will NOT hurt your chances. It is only a tool used to improve your chances if you are not immediately accepted based off your GPA & Major Prep completion.

Also if you are applying to an impacted major and are missing even pre-req they will automatically reject you regardless of GPA or any other factor.

This is all information straight from UCLA.

More people are applying to Linguistics. I heard it’s a new thing, so maybe it was easy to get in last year but it’s getting more competitive over the years.

HOLY CAZOLLI, comm studies is at 3.9?!

@LAladyy Thank you for correcting me…

@ChenJiaXing & @LAladyy: Thank you so much guys. My personal statement all together was about 604 words. I made it short and straight to the point. Which is what I heard they want. One of my professors said that it brought tears to her eyes and she said it was good. Some people said it was like a 7-8ish out of 10. I really want to go to UCLA for psychology. I’ve never been this determined. I’ve done IGETC and all of the PRE-REQS. I also have a lot of great extra-curricular activities. I am just a bit short from the average GPA accepted, which was a 3.81. I am sitting at a 3.73. Yikes! :/

@ChenJiaXing: Yaay, another Chinese major!
My GPA is around the same as yours and I’m also nervous ; ;.

Reposting because there weren’t any responses…

I’m a psych major hoping to get into ucla too with a 3.72.
I started thinking I won’t get in, it’s easier that way if I get rejected, because my little heart will be completely broken.
Keep in mind every year the average gpa accepted rises, so it might be higher this year.

I’m applying to ucla and cal as a psychology major. I currently have 4.0 transfer gpa and have completed all the pre reqs for ucla and will finish the last pre req for cal in spring . My issue is I have attended 2 community colleges in 2005 and just withdrew with W’s then enrolled in another community college and did horrible because I left and did not drop the class for two semesters. I went back to the school and did an academic renewal. So all in all I have a 4.0 at my current cc and with the one C at a previous cc I would have a total high 3.9. I have a 4 year old son which I wrote about in my personal statement as the purpose for such a turn around. Also I work full time and provide for family as an insurance claims rep while going to school. What do you think my chances are. I’m really hoping to get in to either
