@fncrane I also got waitlisted at UCLA for Math/Econ. My GPA back then was 3.57
I had both IGETC and the articulated courses completed.
I also worked for two years (50+ hours) at a law firm while at school.
holy crap i wonder why there’s so many math/econ people on the waitlist
@fncrane @rsoni1994 I’m not sure I’m surprised as well. Best of luck to you both! Did you guys apply to Berk?
@Ucucucuc Yes, I did apply to Cal.
I got accepted at SD, SB, SC, and Davis.
Btw @trnsfrstdnt according to last years UCLA waitlist thread, one of the members wrote this:
“The most competitive applicants are re-evaluated if a spot opens up. You are competing for a spot in the major, not the school, but this does not mean that if 50 students were initially accepted for the major and only 12 enrolled, there is room for 38 wait-listers.”
Last year people that got accepted found out on June 18th. If you were rejected, then they told you the day after on June 19th.
@rsoni1994 yeah thats what the admissions representative i spoke to yesterday told me. also, those acceptance trends are just from what we see here on CC - we have no idea if people were admitted before or after. when i was waitlisted for freshman admission they told us we’d here somewhere between may 1 and june 1 - and they started sending acceptances on like may 3
so if anyone is wondering why he or she got wait listed and is in TAP here’s the reason.
They looked at your primary major first but decided that rather than being wait-listed, you would want to get admitted through your alt non impacted major. However, some do not get accepted into the alt major because he or she maybe have not finished the pre reqs or have taken ANY class equivalent to the major (like myself). And so the third option and last was to put you on wait-list for your primary major as indicated in the first stage of the process.
And so the way they do it is
- Primary Major wait-listed
- Consider for Alt Major and accept, but if not then
- wait-list for primary major
obviously those that do get rejected is because they weren’t fit for both.
@fncrane I just hope I get good news from Cal. Did you apply as an Applied Math Major for Cal?
@rsoni1994 no I only applied to UCLA. i go to UCI right now
@ trnsfrstdnt Thank you for your post. That’s interesting I wonder if they will still consider our alt major when they look back at the wait list. I wonder if they only look at it if you appeal.
no they wont. only your primary major and you can’t appeal if you’re waitlisted.
@trnsferstudent Ouch! thanks for your response nonetheless. Best of luck.
no problem! i hope to hear good news from both of us.
Is anyone else a business econ major here?
@Ucucucuc what’s your GPA if you don’t mind my asking
@fncrane 3.6ish
^ is major gpa idk about transfer because I attended quite a few CCs no gap year though, which is what I originally thought was the problem
@fncrane @rsoni1994 Math/Econ is a non-impacted major, (or so it has been for 5+ years) so hopefully we have a legitimate chance.
@Ucucucuc hopefully and what did you mean by your above post? the 3.6 is your major GPA?
