I'm a biochemistry major, and I got in those four as junior transfer. I can't choose between these four. So I need some advice!
Most of my friends choose UCLA over UCSD, because UCSD's colleges require too many GE's for graduation, and they want to concentrate on their upper divison courses only. Therefore, I don't have friend as my roomate in San Diego. Also, I got In Revelle collge and found out the guaduation requirement is way too much for me. Besides, I have to take three lower division courses in UCSD, as my junior college doesn't provide equivalent courses. I've already spent 3 and 1/2 years in my junior college, so I want to be in faster pace.
If I choose UCLA, I have a lot of friends go with me. However, a ucla student told me she felt like she was just a number in there, nothing more. She said she wouldn't into prestige anymore. It sounds horrible. But I can just concentrate on my upper divsion courses if I go there.
I don't know much about UCD and UCI, but I like UCD though. they urge newly admitted student to do summer research project and provide info about bio-related major in there thru email and maiil.

Where would you like to spend 2 or so years?

Considering youre a biochem major choose UCSD..UCLA you said was horrible. UCD is good but in my opinion not as prestigious as UCSD. UCI is the worst out of those 4.

Good Luck!

I don't think UCLA is as horrible as it sounds, you need to get more opinions on the matter. If you really want a more laid back quiet environment, Davis is your best option. Otherwise give UCLA another look. Irvine and SD are commuter schools (from what i've heard about UCSD, which I haven't seen, but it's definitely true of Irvine.)

ucla or ucsd. i would cut uci and uc davis. ucla and ucsd in my opinion are deff better schools. for biochem, i would choose ucsd, but you cant go wrong pretsige and academically speaking with ucsd or ucla.

Let's face it, you're just a number at any UC. They are all big and impersonal. Choose the one you like better between the two better ones, LA and SD.

I would go to UCSD.

SD > LA and UCSD just as good, if not better than UCLA in biochem

I disagree Suze, UC campuses have different feels. Davis and Santa cruz for example are more intimate, as is Cal. Some campuses are much larger than others, some are pedestrian other more scattered.

Cal is intimate? I can't speak specifically to the others but my step brother had classes with 500 kids in them!! He hated the place and when he went to grad school at Yale couldn't believe the difference. Cali people just think uCs are normal, but they have unbelievably large populations and classes. I looked hard at SD because of their fantastic ties to the biotech community, but after attending a few classes, getting a feel for the campus and talking to students I didn't apply.

Actually suze, class size at Cal is not nearly that bad:
-74% of undergrad classes at Berkeley are under 30 students
-7% of undergrad classes at Berkeley have 100+ students

I don't think under 30 students per class is unbelievably large...

The few large classes are ones were the format of large lecture + small discussion sections is better suited to the material.

Cal does have a pretty intimate campus and campus experience for a school of its size: compact pedestrian campus, high number of quality restaurants and cafes in and all around campus. Unlike most UCs (UCSD included) and most other large universities that way...

hmm...i agree with you shirley, sd would not be a very good choice cuz even though it is very strong in biotech, the ge's would be a killer and though i don't kjnow bout transfer requirements at revelle, it will most likely be very very annoying. if you had gotten into like, say muir or warren, i'd strongly suggest ucsd, but i dont think you want to spend another two years studying to graduate.

Take a look at a 2/3 year plan for getting out of revelle. If you can't come up with one, talk to UCSD and petition to transfer into muir or warren as nathan noted.

Trust me, though...Revelle isn't that bad ;).
