I was recently fortunate enough to gain admission to UCLA (got regents consideration, didn’t get regents) along with admission to UCD with a regents scholarship.
To the best of my knowledge, the UCD regents scholarship will give me $30000 total (7500 each year for 4 years), which would be pretty significant. It would also give other perks like priority registration that are pretty cool. On the other hand, UCLA is objectively a better university.
Taking into account that money isn’t too big of a problem (I can pay for both schools, its just that saving 30k won’t hurt) would you recommend UCD or UCLA? Majoring in CS for UCD and CSE for UCLA. Anything that makes UCD stand out above UCLA?

Hmmmm… well, that money sure makes UCD stand out above UCLA, doesn’t it? I didn’t think that the Regents scholarship offered that much. I would call and confirm before you make your decision. UCD is an awesome school with a terrific college town, D1 sports, newer dorms, beautiful campus… But hard to pass up UCLA if the money isn’t there.

Objectively? Yes, there is a single university God who determines that every student who goes to UCLA will have an overall better experience than UCD. I don’t think so. You meant subjectively.

@$KingsElite$ I meant that UCLA is better on paper, as in it’s more prestigious and more difficult to get in to. The reason that I asked this was to get your subjective views about the topic, and in retrospect, I realize that objectively might not have been the best word choice, as I didn’t intend for it to come out as indicating that UCLA is a superior university in all aspects.

Visit the campuses first before making any decisions, but my own opinion:
-I love Davis as a city. It’s laid back, relaxed, and safe. However the part of LA that UCLA is in is also really nice (very different from the rougher areas of LA). Both schools will provide you with a great social scene, but LA is more urban while Davis is more suburban (or at least feels that way). You’ll have to consider that when making your decision.
-LA is definitely a better university on paper -in terms of ranking and reputation. It’s ranked higher (right behind UC Berkeley and is considered a better engineering school than UC Davis. However neither school is top 10 in Computer Science or CSE so that’s not such a big issue.
Personally I would choose LA over Davis but its really your decision.
