UCLA vs UCSB

I was wondering if anyone would like to give their opinion or any advice.

UCLA Pro.
-Presitge
-Great Poli Sci WITH concentrations
Con
-Wants me to pass all my 6 classes in spring semester with a B

Does yer Undergrad really matter? I mean I can always come back and get my masters from their. After college I owe 4 years to the army for paying my tuition.

UCSB Pro.
-Better ROTC program.
-Beautiful Campus
-Perfect distance away from home.
-Laid back (but I don't want it to the point where classes feel like a waste of time)
Con

-Bro culture and douchbaggy ness (could be a pro cause I'm very social but didn't have the time in CC)

Another question, I'm taking Calc 1 for fun but I have a high D now. Should I drop it or try to get a better grade. Is the risk of my offer being taken away too high?

I need to decide in the next couple of days because ROTC scholarship deadline is on Friday for me.

Thanks so much in advance!!

from your list it seems as tho SB wins over LA. I personally loved the SB campus, one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever been to! I say go to UCSB!!

about your calc question, you should definiteley call the admissions offices at both schools and see what they suggest you do, their word is a lot sturdier than anyone’s on here.

Only reason to go to UCSB over UCLA is for the parties. As long as you’re not a drunk, just go to UCSB every couple weeks for the weekend. I vote UCLA.

^not necessarily, you dont have to be a party sorta person to go to UCSB. A big reason for me to want to choose SB is their Honors Program, and as implied by my other post the natural aesthetics of the campus. I also noticed that people in SB are super nice!

You don’t think the UCLA campus is “beautiful”? I would think you must be thinking this about UCSB because it’s on the bluffs. But for “natural aesthetics,” of the campus, as CalBear would say, I would think UCLA is right near the top. You’re not on the ocean as SB is, but you’re close enough if you like beach life.

SB’s party scene is pretty much self-contained. I think the “partiers” at UCLA like to do so on the strip, or generally some of the clubs off campus. I’m not trying to win you to UCLA via this aspect; it’s just an informational.

I have no idea about ROTC.

You want to major in Political Science. Where do you see yourself in five years, with this degree? Finished w/ L-School or B-School? If you see yourself in the latter, I would recommend something more analytically based to cover your bases. But then, it sounds like you’re not quite as good in these types of classes. So is it L-school? UCSB produces some attys, but it isn’t the atty-producing machine that UCLA is.

Sounds like, too, you’re from the LA area. Something about, “not being so close to home.” This would be as legitmate reason as any to want to attend SB.

Both are great choices, BOL.

thanks drax.

I’m not looking to do anything with business or law. I have no interest in either subject.
In 5 years I’ll be getting out of the army so I would be applying to either grad school to major in international relations, policy or something of that like or dentistry school.

If not a dentist I want to work for one of the gov’t agencies or an NGO.
