UCLA Waitlist Class 2022

@vbf2022 Sorry for the late response. If he hasn’t yet I would opt in. It doesn’t hurt. However plan on attending another school. USC is a great school my friends who go there love it. Ucla and usc gave very similar vibes.

am I more likely to get off the waitlist as an OOS student from kansas? UCLA accepted a few kids from my school and I know all (or all but one) are not attending, so not sure if that helps me.

@lovebestbaby @collegefind1234 @ConfusedButAlive hello! I was on the waitlist a few years ago and got off an currently go to UCLA! I researched specific things that I would get involved in at UCLA and stated how I felt I would contribute to UCLA in those ways (clubs and stuff like that). I also stated that I got into Berkeley but if I was to get into UCLA I would definitely enroll at UCLA (I feel like they like to hear definite answers since they are letting you off the waitlist in hopes of filling an enrollment spot). I actually did not put my grades! I was nervous that they would think that it would appear suspicious but i guess it didn’t and a lot of my friends did the same and only wrote about 2 lines and still got in. I wrote about 2 pages, so you don’t have to write the entire statement! Hopefully I covered everything, let me know if you have questions and I can try and address them!

Hi @chipotleismylife i am also waitlisted an feeling pretty down. What are my chances if i am instate and applying for letters and science?

I couldn’t find a more recent one, but for everyone asking about the chances of getting off here are some past stats: https://■■■■■■■■■■■■/docs/2015FreshmanWaitlistAppealCancellation.pdf

didnt see one and got waitlisted so thought i would make one

@vbf2022 3 years my son was waitlisted for engineering at UCLA. I don’t think anyone reported on this forum that they got in to engineering off the waitlist that year. It probably happens, but it doesn’t seem like it happens very much. If you can afford USC, I’d have him go there so that he’s fully mentally committed to where he’s going. We knew a bunch of kids that applied to both USC and UCLA last year and all but one only got into one of the schools (evenly split).

@chipotleismylife Thank you so much for the info. I too got into Berkeley but would much rather go to UCLA

@Cheetodust I’m sorry, don’t feel down! Being on the waitlist is rough because there’s so much uncertainty, but don’t give up! I can’t really say what the chances are because each year is so different. I did comment the stats for my year though in post #65 and I am also an in state and college of Letters and Science student. Sorry I couldn’t give more of a definite answer, but it is true that they review everyone’s application again of those on the waitlist, so if you have a strong application you probably have a good chance!

@chipotleismylife
Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better. That is a fantastic idea to write about, thanks for the advice!
I was rejected from Berkeley but que sera, sera

when should we expect to hear back from ucla??? I’m dying already

after getting accepted by Berkeley for Bio-engineering, D asked if she could write a sort of ‘F.U.’ essay for UCLA waitlist. i reluctantly told her to go-head long as its elegantly written & if it’ll make her feel better. she mentioned how every other UCs (B, SD, SB, I & D) accepted her except for them and how they’ve made a big mistake by passing on her initially. i told her to sit on it for few days but she submitted it soon after along with her 4.8 senior GPA.

Berkeley has been her top choice all along so she’s going there regardless but…it’ll be interesting to see what happens… especially with that kind of approach.

@avz11ymc4

She got into her dream school tho why is she salty :frowning:

I’m sure your daughter is amazing (she got into Cal!!) But this really makes me feel bad.

While here i’ve been spending a week laying in bed in crying because I didn’t even get into my top three (when my stats were either above average or average for the admitted students and I had decent ECs and I spent months on crafting my essays)

I don’t know what i’m going to with my future and she’s salty a school she didn’t even want to go to is rejecting her? What if she gets off the waitlist? Even if she rejects the spot, she might make someone who is extremely anxious and in terrible shape wait longer for their acceptance.

@stressedoutEE ,

i do apologize on her behalf. i would agree that was rather immature on her part and i should’ve done more to stop it… growing up in Socal, UCLA had been her ‘dream’ school until last year when she got serious about engineering. i guess she was more disappointed than i thought but…still shouldn’t have reacted in that fashion. she only thought of her emotion when she should’ve thought about others with bigger disappointments. it is my fault as a parent and i hope you could find it in your hear to forgive us.

no matter what i’d say will make up for the disappointment that you’ve experienced but…you sound like a bright, strong mind. keep your chin up and don’t let some undergraduate acceptance define you…i have a feeling you’ll do just fine wherever you may land.

good night.

Do we have to send a Letter of Continued Interest to UCLA? UCLA has always been my dream school and I’m pretty sure I’ll attend if I make it off the waitlist.

Hi everyoneee :smiley:

So I got waitlisted for Pre Business Economics. I’m currently doing the IB with a predicted around 38/42 and my SAT score is comparatively low with around 1350. The thing is, I’ve been accepted to UCSD and they want me to accept or decline their offer by May 1st AND UCLA waitlist result will only come out after May 1st. I really want to go to UCLA but at the same time its a bit of a risk to decline UCSD’s offer and just wait for the waitlist result as my chances are pretty low…

What to dooo… I’m an international student so I don’t know how things work… Any advice??

Also is any of you writing an essay for the optional additional information? Some people told me its better to write an essay on why I would be a good student or why I really want to go there but some also say it doesnt matter anymore since they won’t be reading those… :// ???

Thank you and best of luck for everyone!

@ntrbl130 UCLA recommends that you enroll at another school when you accept a spot on UCLA’s waitlist. If you are lucky enough to be in the small minority of waitlisted students who are later accepted to UCLA, and you decide to accept the offer, you would then withdraw your enrollment at the other school. You would lose your deposit at the other school, but there is no other penalty. This is standard practice.

@avz11ymc4 No apology would be necessary if you hadn’t shared the story of your daughter’s response to UCLA. Maybe keep that one to yourself next time. :wink:

@textbooked

yeah…my bad. my intention was IF that kind of approach works (opposite of ‘please take me, please’) then it ‘could’ be helpful for future wait list hopefuls. will update it when the result comes out.

Hi everyone, i was waitlisted to UCLA, Berkeley and NYU which are all of my top schools. In previous posts, i have seen people choosing to include what other schools they were waitlisted/accepted to in the waitlist SIQ (so the college knows what options you are working with). Would that be a good thing to include? My situation is tough because i don’t know which i will get into until its past time to make a deposit. Let me know what you all are including in your SIQ’s. Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone, I was waitlisted to UCLA like 'yall.

I was wondering whether writing an essay would actually help your chances as opposed to just writing out your grades and some updates? I was reading the UCLA Waitlist FAQ and it informed me that the waitlist is ranked and that spots are taken off from these ranks to fill the rest of the incoming class, almost implying that writing an additional essay would be useless. Am I reading into this wrong? Thanks
