@usccollegebound Congrats, even if you aren’t going lol. What major?
I was accepted to Design | Media Arts within their School of Arts and Architecture.
I’ll be majoring in Interactive Media and Game Design at USC.
@usccollegebound are you in state or out of state? Have you heard anything about in state news?
In state
was it a really small wave…? i haven’t heard of anyone else getting anything yet
Did you receive your accptance letter in FedEx or USPS?
@cdsdj12345 Ah, I didn’t get an official letter through the mail yet. I meant that I got an email and the portal updated.
@bluesky11 Maybe so?
But as you all know, there’s absolutely no need to be worried or bummed out yet since waitlisted people have until the end of May to be notified.
I searched and couldn’t find any news about the budget passing, maybe someone can enlighten me? I mean news other than someone reading it on a forum.
hi everyone. i was also waitlisted at UCLA and put blood, sweat, and tears into that waitlist essay that was essentially a LOCI.
my dad, who also happens to be a UCLA alumnus, works at UCLA (not in admissions) but asked around, trying to see what my chances were. he spoke to some colleagues that do work in admissions and was told that they had a very high yield this year and that very, very few people would be admitted from the waitlist. one lady in particular said that it was better for me to continue with my plans at the school i SIRd to. if you guys have more specific questions, i’m happy to ask and answer them.
congrats to the person that did get an acceptance though. you’re all beyond qualified and i truly hope that some of you will be lucky enough to attend in the fall! regardless, i’m positive all of you will excel no matter where you end up! as for me, i’ve accepted the waitlist decision as a “soft” rejection and i’ve finally emotionally committed to UCSB. good luck everyone!
@strangecacti Did you know if they meant it was a very high yield in general, or a particularly high yield for this year? Because UCLA always tends to have high yields, they only accept around 200+ people from the waitlist each year.
@strangecacti Thanks so much for the information. I know most students in my area admitted to UCLA accepted if they weren’t accepted to an Ivy.
@offalutensil it was a particularly high yield this year. many students that were admitted eagerly accepted. moreover, lots of students that were accepted to both UCLA and Berkeley chose UCLA. this is what my dad was told. also, from the 3 people at my school that got into Berkeley, two of them chose UCLA. the only one that chose Berkeley was waitlisted at LA. so it makes sense.
@WaitingforGodot4 no problem! surprisingly, 2 people from my school declined UCLA’s offer and both chose UCSD. another student chose UCR. I initially thought that was good news for folks on the waitlist, but I guess it was only a small local trend.
is that why they’re not contacting us?
how many spaces do you think they have
damn. are any of you guys thinking of trying to get in as transfers two years later then? UCLA was my dream school but I feel like by that time I’ll be settled in and happy at Irvine
@bluesky11 ucla has historically been slow with notifying waitlisted students. they send out acceptances/rejections in waves, usually with the final one in july (check the c/o 2021 ucla waitlist thread on here). it’s brutal. there isn’t an exact number of spaces, as it really depends. after sending out the first (very small) wave of acceptances from the waitlist, they’ll see how many decide to come and then decide if they will take more from the waitlist. the only thing i was able to find out regarding spaces was that this year, it is considerably less than the last couple of years. they said that they nearly have enough acceptances to not have to pull from the waitlist at all.
i think transferring from a community college (in california) could work out, they take most of their transfers from there. it would also be saving tons of money in the long run, and slightly easier to get a high GPA. but community college classes tend to fill up, at least they do here. i’ve seen people intend on transferring after 2 years but end up stuck at a CC for almost 3.
i wouldn’t dare transferring from another UC, but that’s just me. it’s definitely doable, but notably difficult. your GPA would have to be super high (which is harder at a UC than CC) and you also need a good reason to transfer. you’re already at a UC, so why does it have to be LA? they prioritize CC transfers all the way.
has anyone called UCLA? when will the next wave be released?
Exactly when was the first wave released?
@usccollegebound Congrats on UCS &UCLA acceptances! May I ask if you wrote a waitlist letter of intent? And your GPA & SAT stats? I’m trying to figure out if the waitlist is ranked and if writing a letter was insignificant to the outcome. Thanks!
Hello, I just called the undergrad admissions. Since UCLA is my dream school, i asked them about anything else I could do to improve my chances and they sadly said nothing at this point hopefully my loci was enough i didnt send in grades :(((((
also, the lady said that they can’t disclose any info about waitlists just yet, but I asked her when the first wave of waitlist admits came out, and she said it hasn’t yet. Not sure what the other posters were talking about if what she said is true.
