Flurry of activity on UC Berkeley waitlist thread. Looks like first wave of acceptances from waitlist was just released.
i turned down berkeley (such a hard decision) so i’m glad to hear at least berkeley kids are getting some good news! i know my spot is going to someone very deserving! wish the same was happening with ucla
Does anyone know whether the UCLA admissions committee reviews an application’s original application on top of the waitlist letter or just their waitlist letter when determining their acceptance off the waitlist?
@pegasus2000 someone with ‘insider information’ (take that as you will) mentioned in this thread earlier that they rank they waitlist, even though they claim not to. This would mean that the original application would factor into your position on the waitlist. I say ‘would’ because you should take that with a grain of salt, can’t really verify what they said
In March I was rejected from UCLA and waitlisted at Berkeley. Today while I was at my baseball game I missed 4 phone calls from a number that when I look up and call back, it traces to UCLA admissions. Did anyone else get this? The number was 310-825-4321
Does anyone know when I should expect waitlist results if I submitted my waitlist app around April 9?
Also, if anyone was curious, or for future generations (lol sorry kiddos), here are some of my stats:
White female
Cell, molecular, developmental bio
SAT: 1540
Bio SAT: 760
Math II SAT: 760
Chem SAT: 800
3.93 UW GPA, 4.4 W GPA
10 AP classes in HS, 11 AP tests (four 5s and one 4, let’s see how I do this year lol)

@idkanymore123 i dont think it matters when you submitted your WL app, as long as you did it by Apr 15
when should we expect results tho
Hey Guys, does anyone know if the first wave came out officially yet because I haven’t heard anything from anyone.
@brianna910 Thank you! I didn’t write anything other than my unweighted gpa, 1st semester courses+grades, and 2nd semester courses because I really didn’t want to write another essay and wasn’t that into UCLA. I’m not going to reveal any “stats,” but for those future hs seniors that may be reading this, I think it helps to get good grades on your first semester of senior year. UC’s tend to put a lot of focus on grades.
Even if the waitlist is ranked, I don’t see how it makes a difference. I think college waitlists are truly cruel.
By the way, my friend also got accepted from their waitlist on May 5th, so I don’t know why they are denying that the first wave has been released.
Was your friend IS or OOS? Thanks
hmm. why would ucla admissions lie about accepting people? i wish they were more transparent about the whole thing.
@strangecacti I know its frustrating waiting but be patient. UCLA has a lot of admittees and the SIR deadline just passed. Once they gather their numbers and know their yield they can begin admitted off the waitlist if applicable. If you are waitlisted for engineering the chances are much lower than a waitlist for L&S.
Just got off the phone with UCLA. The counselor I talked to said that she was not aware of anyone being accepted off the waitlist yet. I’m not saying that to discredit those who said they got in on May 5th, but that’s as far as she knows. It was made clear that more applicants who got in the first time around accepted their admission than UCLA had initially anticipated. She added that at this point, they might not even have to pull from the waitlist. Also, I find this super contradicting, but she said that we should be notified during June even though the FAQs portion on the portal claimed that we should find out no later than June 1st. Everything is simply need based at this point.
@pegasus2000 How do you get them to tell you all that info? Whenever I call they just give me the generic responses straight from the waitlist FAQS
Hello everyone.
Just got off the phone with the undergraduate admissions office of UCLA. The woman advised me that yesterday and today were spent reviewing the waitlisted students applications and that they will be sending the first wave in mid may and have all of the acceptances/ rejections by the end of the month. She did mention that there are many well qualified applicants on the waitlist and that very very few will be accepted off, if any. She said that those who are accepted off are based off of their major, and extra room in the major for that student/students. The yield this year is considerably high for UCLA… but they will try their best to get as many off of the waitlist as possible. I’m guessing around 100 will receive acceptances by the end of May. I do know majors such as engineering and business will be very competitive and hard to get into off of the waitlist. Anyone waitlisted for English??
(Moderators Note:
Editing the post, UCLA waitlists for freshman are not admit by major if you are in L&S. They will admit based off of qualified applicants for all of L&S. Any kind of decisions for majors will happen once you are a student here. Engineering and other professional schools will admit by major)
