Hello. I am an international student who's currently attending a private high school in Texas.
I have been living in the United States for 2 years,
and now I have a year to go! (I'm a junior)
I tried very hard to maintain good gpa for UC schools, and my UC gpa is not too awful(3.7)
but I have not taken any AP classes at all!
I know that a lot of UCLA admitted international students have great AP scores...
Would it be impossible to get into UCLA without any?
I am taking 3 AP classes next year.

Thank you so much!

If your school does not offer a wide selection of AP courses (and therefore you have not taken very many), then a college will not count it against you.

However, I don’t know how different the admission criteria are for international students. Have you taken any IB/community college courses?

If your academic record as a whole is strong, then a scarcity of APs should not be overly problematic. Talk to your counselor.

As long as you took the most rigorous courseload available at your school, and as long as your 3.7 places you AT LEAST in the top 10 percent of your class, your chances are alright in terms of grades. Your extracurriculars should also stand out a bit. Try to score a 2000+ on the SAT. Also, to make up for your lack of AP classes you can take some SAT subject tests. Being an international will only get you that far, there are international applicants with stats above yours, so you need to work hard this last year.

AP scores are just additions to strengthen your application but has little impact. Most Asians out there have a 5 on every possible AP so it is often overlooked and not given as much weight

“Most Asians out there have a 5 on every possible AP so it is often overlooked and not given as much weight”
That’s a bit racist don’t you think?
And to answer the OP’s question, AP scores are just an additional bonus to help improve your application. It’s much more important to have a strong and challenging academic schedule.
