UCLAvsNYU

I was wondering what people think about these two schools. they are both in big cities so anybody got some pros and cons for both

NYU: as a student I love it here. It’s very nice, in nyc so I can take a subway with my friends to times square, central park, museums, restaurants, CLUBS!, eat 1 dollar pizza, walk around in my pea coat while passing through crowds of people, enjoying the snow, the events here, the school is very social, pretty much no frats or sor., and we arent into sports. plus no campus, but nyc is our campus. The school IS VERY challenging to me(pre med) and is a good academic experience.

One thing though. If you don’t have loads of cash you probably won’t be able to attend (So darn expensive)

I don’t attend NYU myself, but it’s got a mixed reputation. On one hand, it has terrific internship opportunities and it’s very well known (internationally too). The students are usually rich overprivileged kids though, which is one of those biases that kind of holds true. Also a bunch of the students don’t like the atmosphere, which leads to high depression rates. It’s a love or hate school I guess. Some students definitely do love it.

NYU Stern is a bit different, mostly because it’s extremely prestigious (right up there with wharton) and provides an incredible launching platform for a business career in NYC.

UCLA I don’t know half as much about, but I’d definitely choose it over non-stern NYU (especially if I was in-state).

I am a California Resident so yea my UCLA tuition would be really nice to have.

what school are you applying to at nyu?

On a cultural level I think NYC is pretty different from LA, so that should play a big part in your decision. If you are in state for Cali then UCLA becomes much more attractive due to the price difference, otherwise it may depend on your intended major and comfort.

UCLA- Depending on where you are from in california, remember a lot of socal people go there and that has bugged many norcal people. the academics there are awesome tho and you are going to pay less than half of what you would for nyu. Also keep in mind weather differences

i do live in Socal and i am applying to CAS international studies

The pros and cons depend primarily on you. I don’t know much about NYU, but from what I do I know I’ve heard that NYC is your campus, meaning NYU has no traditional college experience and if you’re not very independent than NYU is probably not for you. UCLA on the other hand is more traditional. You’re campus is right there next to your dorms, and your social life will probably revolve around the school and the friends you make. If you don’t have a car, it can be difficult to get around LA, because LA Is so spread out. There’s always public transportation in LA, but you’ll be limited by traffic and time as public transportation in LA can at times be slow, or streets will generally be slow.
