Did anyone notice that in the portal it says the system is going down 11:30pm Friday to 2:30pm Saturday… Seems like weird timing… Any thoughts
@nwuesthoff I saw the same thing too. Fall Admission payment.
Where is the fall admission payment thing?
My S applied for Chemical Engineering,Storrs, but the Application Status shows ACES Exploratory, Storrs. What Does ACES mean?
.
@sidpet I believe ACES is the undeclared exploratory program.
I tried logging onto my student admin but got this message CHECK APPSERVER LOGS. THE SITE BOOTED WITH INTERNAL DEFAULT SETTINGS, BECAUSE OF: bea.jolt.ServiceException: Invalid Session. Did anyone else get this?
I just got the same message nwuesthoff. That’s why i came here to see if anyone else had the same results when trying to sign in.
That was simply a server reboot or a restart of web services…absolutely nothing to do with an admissions decision
still no sign of that financial aid link on my net id /:
If anyone from UConn admissions is reading this thread, I have to imagine they are more than slightly amused at the lengths to which people are analyzing their portal. Best of luck to all - for a quick and positive outcome.
Yes itsajoke, exactly! Must be exciting for them as well as the applicants!
For sure if they had a moment to breathe and read this thread they would smile, but I think they’d also be psyched that everyone cares so much. Seems like the students on here are really sincere/proactive about becoming part of UCONN and would be pretty likely to be equally dedicated to being involved on campus, and good contributors in every way. The parents seem supportive as well, and seems like no one is calling the admissions dept to overly bug them during this busy time, which is respectful. I know for us it was the fabulous preso they did when you took tours and at open house that put UCONN #1, in addition to the strong academic reputation (#19 top Public Research), and strong campus/alumni camaraderie. The other presos we saw at other institutions were mostly average and at one very expensive, very hard to get into school, the presenter gave the preso on a black board WITH CHALK, with back turned towards audience for majority of the time. It was definitely interesting to see that for a $60k highly selective school. I’m all about tradition, but a blackboard from 1920 for the admissions preso has to make people wonder. UCONN is the right mix of tradition and cutting edge and my S was very happy to see the diversity at UCONN 1st hand as well. Other schools claim to have diversity but when you look at the actual stats, it’s just not there. I am sure those schools are trying to be more reflective, but UCONN has actual results, which were reflected statistically and literally when we visited. Nothing’s perfect but my S was grinning ear to ear when we were at UCONN because after several various college visits all over the country he found his #1 choice. I hope everyone hears good news soon!
It’s even better than what you describe above once you get there! Your child is not a number. EVERYONE employed on campus cares about the school and your child. I had the same thought about whether or not anyone in Admissions has time to scroll through CC.
@TLD1267 I just saw that your daughter is pre vet. My daughter applied to UConn for pre vet major and I was wondering how your daughter likes it. She has already been accepted into Pre Vet/Animal Sciences at Penn State, UMass Amherst honors, Univ of Delaware honors, Ohio State and U of Maryland.
@amm444. My daughter did the animal science summer program at UMass, summer of 2014. She loved it there. Dr. U ran it…Dr U attended UCONN. Many UMass horses were older and not getting pregnant, according to my daughter. Therefore it was #4 on her list. She got into PSU. It was her #1… Until she saw UCONN had a minor in therapeutic horsemanship and a minor in equine management. She has volunteered with disabled kids for the past 5 years. We loved UDel when we visited, but back then …about 2 years ago they had only about 5 horses. That doesn’t work for her…as she has wanted an equine minor. She got into Rutgers, but they do not breed horses, so they were #3. My husband and I loved PSU but after UCONN’s admitted students day, hearing the head of the animal science department speak, meeting him, speaking with him…seeing the magnificent farm…there was no question…UCONN was the top school. Dr. Zinn is so vested and involved. He meets with every freshman at orientation and helps them enroll in 1st semester classes. He teaches the FYE. The kids can go to him as well as their advisor for anything. He was at their equestrian home show supporting his students. Even his office staff bends over backwards to help, anytime I have called or my daughter has gone in. She could not be happier! Obviously it may not be right for everyone…but it’s so hands on and the staff is so involved. 1st semester was intro to animal science, every student got assigned their own animal to train and work with for a show. She got a cow…it wasn’t easy…but so worth it!
@TLD1267 Thanks so much for the informative post. My daughter has never worked with horses, so this is not a top priority for her, but I think she might enjoy minoring in something like therapeutic horsemanship. Right now UConn is the only school that we haven’t heard from, but it’s the closest one to us – we live in Westchester – and I’d love to see my daughter there. Unfortunately, merit aid is important to us, as these OOS schools are pretty expensive and this is my third and last daughter to attend college. Have only heard about merit from UMass Amherst, but not sure their program is as strong as the others. Also not sure if my daughter’s test scores are high enough for merit from UConn (2030 SAT), but she’s been taking a bunch of AP’s and has a fairly strong GPA (UW 3.7/4.0). We’ll just wait and see.
@amm4444 I believe that UCONN has a stronger program than UMass. My daughter just missed Merit $…so I can tell you what was needed last year…you had to be in the top 10% of your graduating class…my daughter was in top 12%. As far as SAT score they used only M & R…it was 1350 or higher. You needed both, not just one or the other. I get the close to home thing…that was why I really liked UDel. And why she didn’t try for Ohio, Clemson or some other schools…we tried to keep it 4 hours or less. Its 3-3 1/2 hours for us to Uconn, but we take the Merritt Pkwy so its actually a nice ride. Good Luck! Any other questions…just let me know…Oh I didn’t mention…there is a professional sorority just for CANR students…my daughter is pledging now. They do fund raiser for ASPCA type stuff…internships award scholarships. Honestly everyday my daughter gets emails for jobs or internships …the entire state looks to UCONN for help.
Has anyone else heard of different criteria for OOS scholarships? The website doesn’t publish anything specific. My daughter has received generous merit at all other schools but I am concerned that she will not meet the criteria based on the information above. UConn is a top choice for her. Thanks for sharing!
Does anyone know from past years how the portal posts the info. I mean if the student is accepted… what does it say…if they are rejected what does it say?
@crazmom If accepted there are 2 small paragraphs on the SAS under the little bar graph with your name and program applied to. It starts Congratulations!..goes on and eventually says… you will get an official letter. There is a screen shot or 2 on Twitter. I remember seeing it last year while I was waiting. If you go on Twitter and search ‘accepted to Uconn’ tons of tweets will come up…if you go back to this time last year you will see a pic or 2.
