@sidpet, ACES is the Academic Center for Exploratory Studies.
OK People… I bit the bullet and called admissions this morning. When I told them there was a rumor that decisions would be announced on Friday at 5pm she said that was NOT accurate. Decisions will be released on March 1st. Does anyone know if this is a diversion tactic? What are your thoughts?
I would take their word. They have received over 37,000 applications. They fill about 3500 or less spots at Storrs campus. They are busy, I’d wait. Went through this two years ago too. It all works out!
@crazmom I would hope that the university would not intentionally mislead the public and provide a false release date for admissions decisions. Not sure what they would gain by doing so, and that would only upset students and parents who have been anxiously waiting for results. My understanding has always been that decisions would be released in March and more recently, that they would be specifically be released on March 1st. Good luck to all who wait and remain hopeful!
I know last year people called and different people in the office gave different answers…I don’t think anyone is lying…I’m sure the employees are under strict orders to not give an exact date…that’s why the answer for most schools is …by a certain date. Ever since UCONN did away with rolling or EA …it’s been at least 3 or 4 years …decision have come out in February…the last 2 or 3 years it was the last Friday of the month. Maybe this year there really are computer issues / upgrades set for tomorrow. I guess tomorrow evening we will all know.
What I have seen with other colleges (with both my children) is that if you call admissions they will say ’ By March 1" or “by Feb 15” or whatever - meaning on or before that date. If they are done and ready to go earlier (which they generally are) then they release them. Better to give themselves the little bit extra breathing room in case they need the extra days then to commit to a release tomorrow at 5:00 only to not be ready to do so or if there are some unexpected glitches. I don’t think its an intentional misleading - as who complains when decisions come out EARLIER than they say they are getting them out!
Good luck all - one way or the other it will be over in a few days!
Whatever it is, I wish all of you students and parents who have bonded on this thread over past few weeks and months the very best. I started our thread to make sure we all had someone to communicate with and I’ve appreciated the support and seeing everyone support each other. If it’s any indication of the Husky community then it’s a good one because everyone stayed positive. I hope we all are privileged enough to be at the Admitted Student Open House at Storrs on Saturday April 9th and that it is a beautiful, sunny day with many smiles. I am sure the admissions folks will be happy to have it all behind them too and everyone can all just celebrate that day.
I appreciate you setting up this thread. It is good to know I am not the only one obsessing. I have come to rely on it for my sanity!
Keeping fingers crossed for a “yes”. I would be so proud to send my son to UConn. Good luck to all of us.
I have come to rely on this thread too.
My daughter has been laughing at how I have tried every which way on the portal to see if there were any positive clues.
If our children are accepted we should all meet for coffee if our kids go to the same orientation.
UConn accepted my older daughter in early December 2006. It was so much easier back then.
Good luck to everyone
Very proud parent of an International student who is really excited to compete Div 1 athletics and UCONN academics our daughter will pursue Engineering(Biomedical) patiently waiting for the official admission decision! Go Huskies!
Haha yes we should all meet and wear name tags with our College Confidential ‘handle’ on it. It’d be fun to meet all of you. There is only one Accepted Student day for Stores on Saturday 4/7, and the schedule indicates that students will be pretty busy, so we will have some parent time to meet. Everyone pencil that 4/7 day in now and think positively!
Sorry, meant 4/9!
Isn’t it more accurate to say they get 37,000 applicants and they accept about 15,000 of them. Of that 15,000 about 3700 enroll. So chances are better than 3700 spots for 37,000 apps right? Still a daunting task for the staff.
@nanddsmom Yes you are correct. They told us at the presentation that they would have about a 47%-48%acceptance rate this year (down from 49% from 2015 since UCONN is getting so very popular). So that would mean about 17,000 acceptances approx., and out of those about 22% would enroll to get to 3700 spots. if they only admitted 3700 out of the 37,000 apps that would be 10% acceptance rate vs the 47%-48%. They shared that they want bright, well rounded kids, and a variety of backgrounds/diversity, and they strongly consider grades, test scores, and holistic attributes to get that. All good.
We received phone call from Uconn out of the blue…this afternoon stating letters go out March 1…
Oh no. I can see the flood of posts now!
Why didn’t i get a call? Does that mean something?
@itsajoke Hahaha I love the levity. Yes, no one should freak out if you didn’t get a call. Last year the same thing happened. Some people got calls, some did not, and it didn’t mean anything. Obviously they are too busy to call 17,000 people. We will know soon enough and it will be fun to see how right/wrong we were. Ahh the intrigue of it all!
I saw a few posts about the $150 “admission deposit” show up in the “Make a Payment” section. Does this also show in your account. To check this go to “Admission Status” Page, on the up right corner there is a box “go to …” select “make a payment” from the drop down then click the “>>”, this will send you the make a payment page, where you could see a charge of $150 for “admission deposit”. This showed in my S account, not sure it means anything. Good luck to all.
@jzcollege. It shows up in my D’s account too. Not sure what it means though! Hopefully the waiting will be over soon!!
