UCONN Class of 2020 Decision Thread- for Storrs location

Thanks so much @negirl508 ! And Congratulations to your daughter!! I believe in the end it will all work out for the best. It is absolutely an emotional roller coaster!

I was accepted to biomdeical engineering oos with a 3.3 gpa, 1970 sat, and great ECs. I was surprised I actually got into engineering, I was expecting ACES. Congrats to everyone who was accepted and goodluck to those waiting!

Was your decision posted today or yesterday? We are still waiting for a decision.

Thank you all that have been sending positive thoughts for me for my waitlisted son. He is a great young man. As one example, he volunteers for the homeless to cook meals, and some of the cooks are reticent about sitting and eating their own personal meal with the men at the end of the meal after they’ve been served. My S serves them and then goes right over and sits amongst them to eat. It can be a little scary at times to me, but he thinks he is no better or worse- just human. He listens to all of their stories and sees their goodness shining through. He has a good light and good spirit and no matter what I know he will be fine. He goes to a charter school and may have had slightly lower gpa and test score than optimal, but considering the rigor of his school a very strong showing for sure, and good solid holistic attributes. No one from his charter school has ever gone to UCONN, as it’s a newer high school from a well established middle school, so he would be the first to go and would hopefully pave way for others to come. I happen to have some inexpensive tix for the final game of men’s basketball next Sunday that someone kindly gave us knowing UCONN’s his #1, and no matter what my S still wants to go to the game! You’d think he’d feel dejected but not at all. He has never been to a sporting event there since we live a few hours from Storrs in MA, but he said he is proud to be on waitlist, and no matter what a Husky at heart and still absolutely wants to go to have the experience of being there on Sunday. He just absolutely loves it there at Storrs for so many reasons. I thought that was really cool that he is still ALL IN, because being the mom I thought maybe it could possibly hurt a little to go too, but he is nothing but positive and true of heart and excited. Good for him! Thanks again all!

@bb0721 Are you sure she didn’t list any second choice on the common app? We looked back and it was mandatory to put something in - red asterisk. Maybe we should have put nursing down again. There were so many applications from so many schools that it is truly hard to remember what we did. Yes we are out of state. My daughter has gotten into UD, UMASS - Lowell, Fairfield U - Magis Scholar, U of Portland, Quinnipiac, URI, Penn State - more schools pre-nursing but they are taken out of the loop. We are awaiting four more reach schools. Off to Penn State today to sit through a admitted student nursing school day on March 1st. We have to fly from CA. The remaining schools we haven’t visited, we will see over spring break on the East Coast. Hopefully we will get the UCONN letter by then and can see whether it will be in contention. Also - @becautious wish your son the best of luck in his position on the wait list! I wish my twin daughter who is applying to nursing would have a favorite school. As of now, we are planning to visit all of them and hope she has an epiphany like your son did for UCONN! She did really love Fairfield, we went to the Magis Scholar overnight visit last weekend and she loved the school, the students, the location and it is a contender. But not a definite yet. Thankfully my second twin is pretty set on her choice of Mills College in Oakland which is a perfect fit for her. Congrats to all those who were admitted to UCONN!

@netter11 Just double checked with my daughter. She says that if she was forced to put a second choice major in, she would have listed exploratory. We are only an hour away from Penn State. I wish she were registered for that upcoming admitted students day. It was full by the time she tried to get in, so we aren’t going until later in April. I would so love to see this decided before then. I may call and see if there is any possible way to get into the March 1st one. It’s a long shot. I can’t imagine going through this with 2 kids at once! Safe travels from CA to PA! Maybe we will both be at Penn State on Tuesday! Fairfield Magis Scholar sounds like a great option!

You should definitely call @bb0721 to see if there were any cancellations for March1st. We are so excited to see Penn State, both my husband’s father and sister graduated from PS and loved it. But she and I have never seen the campus.

Checked a minute ago and got in for business!

@netter11 Not to hijack this thread, but when you are at Penn State, make sure you visit their creamery. Hands down the most awesome ice cream. A huge favorite of my S and H.

@becautious As others have stated, your son sounds like a great kid. If he has accomplished anything since the time of submitting his application, he should probably let them know. I’m not sure, but it also might not hurt to send a letter letting them know that this is his number one choice and he would absolutely commit to going if he’s accepted. I have been through this three times and remember the disappointment when my over-achieving older daughter didn’t get into her top two choices. She ended up going to an excellent university that gave her very nice scholarship, and had amazing opportunities that she never would have had in the other schools. I just hope that, like my daughter, your son ends up where he’s meant to be.

my D’s says "Congratulations! On behalf of the University of Connecticut, it is our pleasure to invite you to join the incoming freshman class. Due to the rigorous requirements of the main campus in Storrs, we are unable to honor your request for immediate admissions to this campus. To best serve your commuting needs, you have been invited to attend the campus above; however, you may elect to attend any of our five regional campuses throughout Connecticut. Please see the detailed information above regarding your admission offer. You will be receiving an official letter by postal mail in the near future. We look forward to welcoming you to the UConn community.

Although every effort has been made to provide the most current and correct information on-line regarding your decision, your official notification of admission will be the paper admission letter you will be receiving via postal mail."

Does this mean she is wait listed or does that status look different?

@graddadd No the wait list response looked different. Your student was accepted it would seem, but not to Storrs campus. Congrats on the acceptance! Wait list was a very clear cut offer to be wait listed for Storrs and you had to either hit a button to accept that spot or to remove yourself from the wait list. It was clear and pretty brief and did not happen to mention a letter. I’d post it for you but my son enthusiastically chose to accept the wsitlist spot, which then cleared out the message. It now says ‘per your request you’ve been placed on waitlist and will be infirmed in late May.’

Informed I mean! Lol!

thanks

mine was posted Saturday around 130!

@becautious my heart is broken for you and your son as I’ve been following this thread since you started it and I know how much this acceptance meant to you. I will think positive thoughts for you and maybe you will get good news in the end.

To all those who are wait listed, my daughter was in the that position two years ago and was devastated. UConn was by far her number one choice. She immediately did express interest, wrote a letter affirming her passion for the school and one of her teachers wrote an additional recommendation. In late April she found out that she was admitted and is now there as an SLHS major. Don’t give up hope!

Congrats to all who got the news they were hoping for! For my son, whose first choice is Storrs, I am perplexed by his apparent rejection. He has acceptances at two other schools with similar rigor, plus merit money that would make attending either one as inexpensive as UCONN. 3.7 gpa, 1290 SAT, NHS, music, four years all season athlete, service, great recs and essay. It seems odd that he didn’t even get wait listed. Oh well, he will be fine and the other offers really will serve to keep him from feeling too bad, but I really thought he would get into Storrs.

@DonnaEv Thank you so much for your kind words! I just read back a bit and saw that your S is in! Many congrats!! I hope you check back in in late April- mid May to see update. Maybe since we’re both in Eastern MA we will have the good luck if meeting one day over coffee ( or ice cream) in Storrs! Here’s to your S and to good news coming this way in Spring! @katniss1 Thanks for your hopeful message. We are keeping the Husky faith!

Congrats to all who were accepted. My friend’s son was wait listed. Honestly seems more competitive than last year…and it was really competitive last year. UCONN gets more popular every year. Last year the # of kids from my daughter’s HS applying was about double than any year previous. I wonder how many applied this year. Waitlisted people , keep the faith. I am sure many spots will open up…the OOSers that get no $ are likely to go elsewhere…and UCONN does not give a alot of $ to OOSers unless they have relatively high scores on SAT and are in the top 10% of class. Even with a scholarship of $10,000-$20,000 UCONN will still be more $ than most schools in state for the OOSers(except in NJ! where in state tuition is between $31,000-$35,000) Hopefully you hear before May 1st, so you do not have to put a deposit elsewhere. One of my daughter’s friends wasn’t so lucky, she got off the wait list late May, and she is very happy at UCONN. Also…comparing stats is kinda pointless, because those are averages…you most likely need higher stats for certain majors, such as Engineering or Business…while maybe if you applied undecided/ACES your stats possibly didn’t need to be as high. You really don’t know the stats of the applicants you directly competed with for a spot in a particular program/major/ school. So many things factor into the decisions. Good luck!
