In-state daughter accepted to honors with $7,500 merit. As I understand honors, it’s not quite as appealing as it used to be. Notably honors dorms used to be most desirable but are outdated compared to new NextGen housing. Keep waiting to hear they are allocating NextGen space to honors. Otherwise it sounds like early registration, is a modest benefit. Honors classes get mixed reviews.
would you mind sharing your Ds stats? My D was denied from nursing and we thought it looked good. ty
@YoungOne4 We clicked on the link the other day. It only outlines the terms of scholarship offers. Accept only means that you’ve accepted the tetms. It doesn’t bind you to attending or anything like that. There was no second page the other day. Didn’t check today after receiving the snail mail notification.
Thank you, @skimomof3
@mkcblackberry and @ctDad5772. Same here! Supposed to hear from the last OOS public on Monday and the last private next weekend. Two engineering programs my son got into offer no merit aid whatsoever to engineering applicants (which sucks). It’s tough to turn away the in-state price of UConn when you get the price to where it is with a merit scholarship.
From what I understand from my senior at UConn, a lot (!) of STEM majors either turn down the honors program or drop it after the first year, particularly engineering majors. The workload is intense just for the major and the honors program adds a lot of time-consuming additional requirements. There are benefits, though. Students in the honors program get first pick of housing in the lottery each spring, plus they get to register for classes earlier than the general student population. And, there are certain classes/discussion sections that are open to honors program students only.
@poncholou Anecdotally nursing is the most competitive major to be admitted to at UConn. They simply cannot hire enough faculty to meet demand. My daughter was not nursing but 1480 SAT, 3.9 plus UW GPA, 8 APs.
@RelocatedYankee I just took a look at the honors program info received today. Says housing for first year honors students will be in Buckley and Shippee, so no NextGen from the looks of it.
Son received 18,500 academic excellence scholarship and honors program.
Sport Management/Business
OOS
3.7 UW (top five high school in state)
1470 SAT
Accepted to programs and received merit from Temple and Umass. Likely will choose Temple as we are in state and the internship opps are great in Philly. He’s feeling very blessed to have three good options.
Also received $18,500 in scholarships + accepted into UConn’s Honors program
I just received UConn’s snail mail today. I live in NY if that helps.
Chemical Engineering
OOS
4.2 W; ? UW
1490 SAT
My stats and info. are literally the same as what the user above me mentioned… wOw
Did anyone else get into Uconn Spring Admission Program besides me?
Can you only view your need based aid after paying the enrollment deposit??
@ShottyZGuy don’t pay anything until they tell you how much it costs. Everything is negotiable and once you send them a check you give up your ability to negotiate.
Just got my snail mail and there’s no merit aid. Is it ok if I send an email telling them to reconsider me for merit aid?
I got no honors and no merit money. 3.9 GPA 32 ACT.
Got into UCONN from OOS (MA)
Major: Nursing
STATS-
SAT: 1270
GPA: 3.79 (weighted)
CLASS RANK: Top 10%
Got into the Honors Program with the STEM Scholarship of $20k per year!
@Bruins1234 That’s awesome! Are you planning on going to UConn with that scholarship in addition to your financial aid (once it becomes available)? That’s relatively a lot of aid, my dude…
@bruins1234 that’s incredible And congrats!
There must be more to the story to get that kind of aid especially for nursing with those stats right?
@FutureCollege321 I intend to appeal every merit award I receive. My brother went through this last year and every school gave him more money. The state schools tend to give up less but they also cost less.
can someone please please help me? my portal STILL has not changed. is this happening for anyone else? this might sound silly but i’m kind of worried they forgot about me. for months, my portal has said, “your application was complete on ____. your admissions decision will be posted here when it is available.”
