@wendy1367 Just call the Admissions office tomorrow and ask.
@wendy1367 Don’t worry about that if I were you. On last year’s thread, there were some people who did not get their decision until the 10th. Yeah, I know that is a long wait considering that most decisions already came out on 2/28 but I don’t think you were forgotten
i think its a fake post… its esp hard for nursing to be in UCONN and with that stats and honors program… nahh… honors in uconn doesnt start till 1400 sat. @Collegedad33 and @Bruins1234
I’m suprised that I made it into the Honors College too! I thought Honors College was about the numbers but in this case, I think UConn looked at my application holistically. As far as my application goes…
Classes: I took 6 APs and 3 Dual Enrollment (mostly STEM) between sophomore year to now. All of my classes were either Honors, AP or Dual Enrollment. I didn’t take a normal class in high school.
Extracurriculars: Student council (4 year), Science Team (3 year), National Honor Society (2 year), National Spanish Honor Society (3 year), and I have also been involved with a program that is affiliated with Mass General Hospital.
Internships: The summer going into my junior year, I worked at the Anesthesia department at MGH, got to see some cool surgeries. The summer going into my senior year, I interned with the nursing director at MGH in a nursing unit.
Recommendations: My teachers gave me amazing recommendations. It helps to have the nursing director of MGH to write your recommendation for you!
Personal Essay: My personal essay talked about my internship at a nursing unit and how I dealt with the death of the first patient I interacted with.
Overall, I was highly discouraged about my STATS, especially my SAT scores. I think my GPA wasn’t bad considering the classes I took. I took the hardest class offered at my school, starting freshman year. I think UCONN took that into account. However, I think my internships really helped my application. I got the STEM scholarship for it, which states “Students must demonstrate extraordinary involvement in a STEM field.“ on the website. I think my involvement with MGH was pretty extraordinary, especially for a high school student. I think my knowledge of the nursing field and involvement in it helped me get into UCONN nursing and Honors College. So, it is very possible! You just need some amazing extracurriculars to help you out and a very good recommendation too!
@FutureCollege321 My philosophy is if you don’t ask, you don’t get. I’m seeing tons of students across all universities who fit the bill for merit but do not get it because there are just not enough funds. My son is one of those students. If your heart is set on a specific university, I would reach out to them, let them know your interest level and ask if there is an appeal process. The worst they can say is no.
If you don’t have your decision, I wouldn’t worry. UConn says they START going out March 1, meaning you will unfortunately have to wait a little bit @wendy1367
@Bruins1234 Nice job and congrats! Sincerely happy for you. Does sound like you worked VERY hard for your goal. I think merit is similar to acceptance sometimes in it all depends on who looks at the application. We have all seen kids with better grades get denied and kids with lesser get in to schools. It’s actually a little refreshing when a school like UCONN looks at the whole student and not just the grades. Seems like a lot of the big schools just look at GPA, class rank and test scores for admittance which is very frustrating for those who are the whole package.
I assume you’ll take the $20k and pick UCONN? Seems like a no brainer.
I’m hoping my D hears back with a good merit package in the next week or 2 to give UCONN a chance. Other wise UPITT is her no brainer.
Congrats and good luck!:))
@Collegedad33 As of now, I like UConn. I haven’t visited the campus yet. I am waiting for Admitted Student Day to go take a look and I need to do some more research on their nursing program. I like what I have heard so far. I’m conflicted between this school and some of the other school I got accepted into.
Thank you so much! I hope that your daughter gets accepted and receive some sort of merit package as well!
Did anyone who received their acceptance in the mail get merit aid, but there is no “admit scholarship acceptance” under the financial aid tab in your portal? Feeling hopeless because i got into so many of my match and reach schools but i cant afford going there. Probably gonna end up at my state safety.
I’m not sure… I hope so. I don’t have that link either but I was accepted into nursing and thought I had good stats.

Did anyone from INSTATE get more than $7.500 merit? It seems like money above went to out of state- then again their sticker price on tuition is $35 K vs. 12K. Just curious.
@newengladmom1 It’s pretty standard for qualified OOS students to be offered higher merit awards because of the tuition difference. I believe there are a couple of highly selective merit awards for in-state students listed on UConn’s website that are for specific groups such as valedictorians. Frankly, as a resident, I’m pretty happy with the $7500 award my son received. He was accepted into two OOS engineering programs, both public schools, that offered zilch.
Oh trust me we are happy with scholarship as well of $7,500. It does explain how some of the OOS students are getting more though.
My daughter is OOS and got $7,500 in merit. It’s not enough off the OOS tuition
For those who received merits - did you receive in the mail with your acceptance letter or was it on the portal? M
Merit and honors notifications come in snail mail. Anxiously awaiting snail mail - hoping today as we are in state and many received on Saturday! Best Wishes!
Thanks – keeping our fingers crossed as we are out of state and need all the help we can get.
@tqants We received ours (OOS) via snail mail.
Signed up for Informed Delivery through USPS and, sure enough, there is an image online of today’s mail, and it includes the envelope from UConn. Can’t wait to get it!
