My son has been admitted to Fordham and Uconn. While he got some scholarship money from Fordham , it is still almost twice as much as Uconn for us as we are in state. He will likely study liberal arts, which makes me feel Fordham would be better. I also like the smaller size of Fordham. Son is trying to decide between both, I think he is leaning towards Uconn at this point. We went to admitted students day at Fordham and were impressed. The schools are so different, any thoughts?

I would not suggest paying twice as much for Fordham if your son is undecided in the liberal arts. The only thing that would make me consider paying twice as much for Fordham was if I was accepted into their Business school. Fordham’s undergraduate business school would provide greater opportunities for your son.

I don’t know much about Fordham, but I can qualify the business school statement. A student from my HS class chose Fordham business from a variety of good options. I’m not really certain about its other strengths, but is there anything in particular you think it can offer?

Of course the difference in living in New York vs Storrs is something you should consider. The campus is quite large in comparison, making it difficult to tour, but I’d suggest trying to get an idea of how your son would like living in Storrs, as it’s not for everybody, especially if they like the city environment.

Just to follow up after a long break, my son and I went to Storrs yesterday to see it again, and he has decided to go to UCONN. He really likes the campus, and has wanted a “big school” from the beginning. There just seemed to be a lot of energy, more than I noticed at Fordham. He’s excited and we are happy for him:)
