UCR Discovery Day

Did anyone go 4/4/09?

What did you guys do?

I signed in, got an introductory bag with information about CHASS (College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences). There were a lot of booths set up by majors, programs such as Honors Program and Studying abroad, and Housing information. There were other booths too, but I don’t remember much of them since I only went to the Housing, Honors Program, Study Abroad, Psychology, and CHASS Connect Booths. There was also an SIR table if you decide on the spot that you want to go UCR. There was a tent where you could spin for free stuff. There were A LOT OF FREE STUFF from most of the booths, and information as well. Haha.
I later went on a Campus Tour, where they explained where everything was and what each building was about, mainly emphasizing about the CHASS buildings (since that day was mainly for CHASS students). Then I went on the Housing tour were we went on a bus (it was PACKED and sort of disorganized in my opinion) and the bus took us to Pentland Hills. After we arrived at Pentland, you go to a meeting room (I think it was a meeting room), where they have a powerpoint presentation on Housing, and a small Q&A session if you want to ask something. After that we were split into a few groups and got to go into each dorm (Pentland, A-I, and Lothian) and see how to rooms look like, where the bathrooms were, etc.

It was fun and exciting. I really liked it. I would suggest to come early, not too early like I did, where they weren’t even set up yet. Maybe like 15-20 minutes before it even starts. (I went an hour earlier because my mom thought there was going to be a long line, but don’t be like me. haha) You’ll love it, and it’s definitely worth the drive and time. (:

Edit: There was only CHASS students that day, whereas on the 18th I think both the other two colleges would be there, so I think it’ll probably be a lot more crowded on the 18th than when I went on the 4th. So go early, if you can, so you don’t have to wait in line. (:

I went there too, but got there at around 1:00 and only did the housing tour. Deffiently go there early, otherwise you will miss out on everything like I did.

BTW … I wish I could have got a “I Love UCR” shirt haha!

Forevermore, thanks!!! That was super detailed  Appreciate it!!

And thanks sky-raptor! Haha “I Love UCR” shirt? That’s cool- were they free??

Ahh dang, I needed to go to a CHASS one seeing as how I too am going for Psychology.

However, I am going as a transfer student and in my ‘my ucr’ it shows my date as May 16th. I am sure they sent me e-mail but I seemed to be oblivious to the fact that last weekend was a CHASS specific day :(

Well the ones at the booths were free. There was also a spinning game at the tent near the registration sign-in, where you could get one of the “big items” like shirts, tote bags, lanyards, etc. (I got a lanyard haha) The only thing I paid was my lunch, but that’s not part of the event haha. xD

And no problem~ I would have taken photos, but I realized I forgot to bring my camera like half way getting to UC Riverside. Sorry! ):

Well, if you’re a transfer student, the day is probably different, I think. Well from the Psychology booth, all I got were like business cards and papers for required courses in Psychology. If you want I can scan the papers I got from the booth for you.
