Hello everyone, I have recently started attending UC Riverside and im not quite liking it that much and finding myself unhappy. I have friends that go to CSU Chico and they love it. I am a first year UCR student and I am considering applying to transfer to Chico for the next three years. I am coming into college with one year of credit from AP tests so after this year i will have two years of credit when i Transfer. I want to apply to keep my options open if i continue to dislike it here. What do you guys think about that? I am a business major and it appears that the business degrees at the two schools are pretty much equal. How would i go about transferring having not had any actual classes finished so i dont have a gpa but i have a year of credit?
First of all, you are very lucky to be going to UCR, as I am trying to transfer from CSUSM to UCR!
Here is some advice I have collected:
The only way you could transfer having not had any classes finished would be if you drop out before classes even start, take a gap year, and reapply this year for Spring 2018 or Fall 2018.
It’s hard to determine if you can actually get into Chico State, since this is how the California University Admission Boards look at accepting students - They see it as, since you already go to a 4-year, you have a VERY VERY low chance of acceptance, because they prioritize the CC students.
If you truly do not see yourself going to UCR for the remainder of your time there, I suggest transferring to a community college, since that is the best way out.
If you do not want to attend a CC, that means you will have to stay at UCR until you complete 60 transferable units for Chico State, and then you will have to apply and see how things go. It will be hard to see what classes will transfer and what classes will not transfer, so I would suggest talking to a counselor.
Honestly, if you really try your hardest at UCR for the next year or two, there is a chance you could get accepted. Maybe be a Spring transfer? It’s hard to really determine whether or not you will get accepted, so talk to your academic counselors and try your best!
Take advantage of the counselors at UCR and seek out their advice and what they have to say to you. If you would like to talk about this more, feel free to message me!
Good luck!
Before dropping out find out when the deadlines are so that you don’t botch up your transcripts with a W. Also, look at Chico’s website to make sure they would even accept a Spring transfer. Some just take Fall.
Then-THINK!
What is it you don’t like about your current school???
Can you tell me?
Is it that you haven’t made friends yet there?
Perhaps join a club there on campus?
Then, if you are super sure about switching…I agree with the other person. If they won’t take you until a junior, then perhaps CC would be the way to go. Why waste a bunch of money there at Riverside when you can finish the GE at the CC and then transfer?
But, I am curious…what don’t you like there?
Both Chico and UCR offer solid Biz degrees. You definitely need to give UCR a legit try before pulling the plug.
Join something like Delta Sigma Pi ( a biz fraternity) and really engage in the community.
