UCR to UC?? Fall 2010... chances? Add schools to my list!

Hi everyone,

I go to UCR, and, well, I'd like to transfer... anywhere.

Major: Economics
GPA: 3.9 at time of transferring
EC's: -one 3 month summer internship related to major (will talk about in essay)
-one summer of volunteering at a shelter (~at least 50 hours)
-Minor campus job for end of Freshman year and throughout Sophomore year
-Member of club related to major
-High school leadership position

My list: Apply to all the mid-top tier UCs.

I am really not digging this school, and I pretty much want to graduate elsewhere. I will spend another year here to finish all of my GE's so I have UC reciprocity.

Any advice/other schools I should add on to my list? Like I said, I am up for any suggestions since I'd like to go somewhere a tad more prestigious and where students are more into their studies. Which private campuses would be a match/slight reach? My high school record is average (~3.5 UC GPA, 1700 SAT) so I do not know if any privates would want me. I plan to write about how I really turned around after high school and felt engaged to learn once I entered college.

Thanks :)

USC Marshall

NYU match
Northwestern slight reach
Cornell reach

3.9 is a very good GPA, you really do have a lot of options, you can really apply anywhere. Make sure you make yourself standout and find a hook that will really grab the adcoms attention. Also, if you apply as a junior, your highschool record will be weighed a lot less than your college record. Here’s a list of some schools that might be good.

NYU
Northwestern
UPenn
USC
Cornell

Basically any other top 20 school (with the exception of YS, which is always a crapshoot) is in your reach. Also, if you want to attend a small LAC I’d suggest checking out Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore.

If you could choose any UC, which one would you go to?

For privates, I would add:
Whitman
Gonzaga
Wake Forest
Case Western
Baylor

*CMC
*Pomona College (Check out their tri-major: Economics, Philosophy, and Politics)
*Occidental College
