UC's not allowing spring semester transfers

AGH this sucks so much!

So I need 60 semester units total right?

I am taking 18 units (max) this semester. Winter I can take 8 more. Spring I'll be able to petition to take more units, so I'll probably take around 22 more units. Summer I'll be able to take 8 more units. That's like 56 units !! I would only need one more 4 unit class in the Fall. Or actually, I have some AP credit that could probably help me there.

Does this really mean I have to wait like a FULL YEAR before going to the UC of my choice? D: What am I supposed to do for all that time!?

How many APs? You could try applying this fall if you have enough APs to push you over 60 units. Make sure you complete IGETC and your major prereqs though.

Hmmm I have

AP European History
AP US History
AP English Language
AP English Literature
AP Human Geography

correct me if i’m wrong, but i believe you have to have ALL 60 credits at the end of spring. therefore, you’ll have to fit those 8 summer credits during the fall/winter/spring if you want to transfer by Fall 2011

Edit: this is for Cal Fall 2010 transfer…i’m pretty sure its the same throughout the UC system for next year as well. Sorry :frowning:

You must complete at least 60 UC-transferable semester (90 quarter) units by the end of the spring 2010 term. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition.

You may not attend summer session 2010 for the purposes of completing a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units, IGETC, or UC Reciprocity requirements. However, if you choose to attend summer for any other purpose (major requirements, courses of interest, etc) you must notify your UC Berkeley Admissions Officer by email and your final, official transcript must be received in our office by September 4, 2010.

^Just like blkbox said, if you would complete 56 semester units excluding the ap credit, then include the ap credit, you can easily get over 60 semester units. You get 28 quarter units if you include all of your ap scores, which is about 18 semester units.

For ucla - similiar to other schools.
AP European History… 8 QUARTER units if you got a 3,4,5
AP US History… 8 QUARTER units if you got a 3,4,5
AP English Language… 8 QUARTER units if you got a 3,4,5
AP English Literature… 8 QUARTER units if you got a 3,4,5
AP Human Geography… 4 QUARTER unitsif you got a 3,4,5

So that’s 36 quarter units, or 36/1.5 = ** 24 semester units**

And here is how your APs count for IGETC (as long as you got a 3 or better):

AP Exam - IGETC Section satisfied

[ul]
[li]European History - 3B or 4F[/li][li]US History - 3B or 4F[/li][li]English Language - 1A[/li][li]English Literature - 1A or 3B[/li][li]Human Geography - 4E[/li][/ul]
You can only use the AP for one section… IE you can’t use AP US for both 3B and 4F.

Meeting 60 units by Spring is not an issue - you’ll have 72 by the Spring. Make sure you can complete IGETC and your major prereqs which can be viewed on Assist by the Spring also.

^rpicton,
Don’t you only get 8 units max for both eng lit and eng lang?
Wouldn’t his total ap credit come out to 28 quarter units/1.5= 18units?

Didn’t see that. You’re right.
You can still use it for IGETC though.

Well I posted this in another thread, so amybe you guys canhelp me out too.

So my AP credits:
AP Exam - IGETC Section satisfied

European History - 3B or 4F

US History - 3B or 4F

English Language - 1A

English Literature - 1A or 3B

Human Geography - 4E

should give me +18 units total.
And I took 3 years of language in high school so I’m good for language…

Current schedule:
Sociology 1 (4)
Speech 1A (4)
Intro to International Relations (3)
Marine Bio (3)
Marine Bio Lab (1)
Chinese 1 (4)
=18 units

If I want to transfer to UCLA Biz econ

I would need:
ENG 1C
1 math class
1 Arts class
1 Social and Behavioral science class
1 Physical Science
1 Biological science
+lab

and pre reqs
Macro Econ (3)
Micro Econ (3)
Financial Accounting (5)
Mangagerial Accounting (5)
Math 180 Calculus and Analytic Geometry (4)

Math 181 Calculus and Analytic Geometry (5)

Would a better schedule, then, be… assuming I get into Honors after Fall and can get all the classes I need, and can petition for more credits in Winter/Spring. And I need 5 honors courses for TAP, correct? I realize it’s probably not a very realistic schedule due to the difficulty and availability of classes. It’s purely hypothetical.

FALL
MARINE BIO 3
MARINE BIO LAB 1
PRE CALC 4
MICRO ECON 3
ACCOUNTING FINANCIAL 5
=16 units

WINTER
MATH 180
ENGLISH 1C H
=8 units

SPRING
MACRO ECON H 3
MATH 181 4
SOME ART H 3
ACCOUNTING MANAGERIAL 5
SOME PHYSICAL SCIENCE H 4
NUTRITION H? 3
=22 units

TOTAL: 46 units + AP credit of 18 units = 64 units
That should cover my pre-reqs, IGETC, and honors reqs right?

Ah, wait… I think you need 6 honors courses for TAP? Lol maybe I should just try for regular economics instead, I don’t need 10 units of accounting for that.
