@Wtrain101 I know right!!! 3pm dream school!!!
@Gumbymom well, not exactly.
āIn May, the UC Board of Regents approved (link is external) a systemwide out-of-state student enrollment cap. Beginning in fall 2018, all UC campuses will be capped at enrolling 18 percent nonresidents ā unless a campusās 2017-18 student-body composition of out-of-state students exceeds 18 percent. At those campuses, including UC Berkeley, nonresident enrollment will be capped at the level of nonresident enrollment for 2017-18.ā
I canāt easily find the actual percentage of enrolled students who are out of state at the 4 campuses that exceed the 18% cal (UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSD). I thought it was around 25% for UCB and UCLA.
@parentworry (post #484) affirmative action is most certainly not banned by any means, quota systems were deemed unconstitional w the bakke v the university of California case and in Johnson v. University of Georgia they established that you could not assign point values for being an URM as a means to increase diversity as it supposedly violates the Equal Protection Clause
All other forms of Affirmative Action have been deemed constitional and are used at differeing degrees at every college in the USA.

I know the decisions will be out in few hours. Butā¦
We got this āUC SANTA BARBARA RECEPTION HONORING TOP APPLICATIONSā
a few weeks ago, and as with anything else, we have gotten used to throwing those āspamā emails. Folks have mentioned the chancellorās invite and now I just wondering perhaps there is more to the above invite. That his chances are better? He was denied from UCLA, waitlisted at UCD and UCSD and he is a little bumād about it. Could you some positive encouragement
Letās hang in there a few hours and, good-luck to all the terrific kids on CC - no matter where you finally end up.
Ha! Just realized my son will be in his community college class that he takes along with his high school classes at 3 oāclock. So I guess he will not know anything until he logs on when he gets home at around 6 oāclock tonight .
Patiently waiting to get rejected
i know itās definitely not happening but iām holding out one last shred of hope that yesterdayās leak was a mistake and that i wasnāt actually waitlisted. i still canāt believe it lmao wow
@prideful Maybe youāll will get in off the waitlist, but UCSD is a great option too. My son said he would take his UCSD acceptance over UCSB regardless of what happens today. I donāt expect SB to accept him for the same issue you had with good stats but poor ECās.
Got into UCD UCSC and UCSD
Denied from UCLA
What are my chances at UCSB CompSci based off the other schools?
@CopperlineX2 yeah ucsd is definitely a great option and iām so grateful for my admission. i guess itās because for so long i pictured myself at ucsb. looks like i should have listened when people told me to fall in love with schools AFTER i get accepted. oh well, it is what it is. the wound is still fresh but i will get over it eventually haha
@prideful may I ask what are your stats?
@Coopy1 i had a 4.27 UC gpa weighted (3.91 unweighted) and 34 ACT
@prideful damn, looks like iām not getting in then lol
@prideful what major are you applying for?
@llaauurenn nah youāre probably good. i just lacked ECs/volunteer work so terribly it was kind of sad haha. my friend with tons of ECs and a ~3.8 got in so donāt worry. ucsb views applicants incredibly holistically; my downfall was just that i couldnāt deliver on the EC aspect.
@BlizzardX i applied for psychological & brain sciences at sb, psychology for every other UC.
@collegehappens18 If your son was invited to the Chancellorās reception he has been admitted to the school! Congrats. They announced it at the reception this past Sunday!! It means he was in the top 15 percent of the applicant pool. They announced that as well.
@MrAirbender - True that āPatiently waiting to get rejectedā comment. My son was hoping heāll make it but does not look like thereās even a chance for a wait list given his UC GPA is 3.67 and SAT score of 1560. We are in state, and he actually applied to several out of state private schools where he got in with scholarship, but UCSB was of great interest to him all along
D rejected CS. 4.0UW, 4.32 UC, 1360 SAT 30 ACT. Not unexpected since she didnāt take the strongly suggested SAT-II math, and didnāt apply to a back up in L&S. No worries tho, already SIRād at Cal Poly SLO
guys, Iām so nervous for 6 pmā¦ aka 3 pm PT. ugh this is my dream school and i hope that the past rejections iāve received lately is a sign for better things to come my way aka ucsbā¦ its a reach but man iād kill to be in cali
