@Ynotgo Oh ok thanks. I’m a senior in high school awaiting decision so does that mean I possibly got admitted? Sorry for all the questions.
Maybe, but I would guess that it doesn’t mean anything more that that you got on a mailing list. I get alumni mailings and I didn’t even attend.
@KuyaStiel: The email is not an indication of your acceptance nor denial. It is just sent to all interested applicants and prospective students.
Similar to @wormholes I have been admitted to UCI (CHP) and UCSD, but have not received that email from UCSB. I personally do not think it is any indication of an acceptance or not.
Is anyone here attending the LA Chancellor’s Reception today? I received an invitation but ultimately couldn’t attend. Just wondering if they actually announce to everyone that they are accepted so I can confirm whether or not I got admitted.
Didn’t receive the email from UCSB- but I have been accepted to UCSD, UCD, UCI(CHP), and received the likely letter from UCLA
@sike4123 What likely letter? The one for engineering?
@angelicluna99 I attended the Los Angeles reception! Yep, they said that we were admitted.
It was a really cool presentation–definitely made me want to go to UCSB more! Everyone seemed really friendly and outgoing, and the chancellor is a cool dude. Very likable and funny.
@mintchipmagic Thank you for the response and congratulations on the acceptance! Did you happen to be invited to the brunch that happened right before the reception? I received a separate invite for it but haven’t heard of anyone else receiving it.
Went to the Chancellor’s Reception today. The program says,

@angelicluna99 Yep, went to the Chancellor’s Reception today at the Westin Los Angeles. They shared that they received more than 82,000 freshmen applications at UCSB this year and those that were invited to the Chancellor’s Reception were in the Top 15% of the applicant pool. It was really cool when they asked the students to stand and then to hear that they were officially given admission offers to attend UCSB. They acknowledged the Regents students with red ribbons on their ID badges. They went on to say that the portals won’t be updated until March 21st, so don’t worry if you don’t see that just yet.
@angelicluna99 Nope, I wasn’t invited to any brunch thing–sounds neat though haha
Attended the Chancellor’s Reception today
I believe these events are a great success for UCSB, surely made me biased towards UCSB and I am highly likely to attend!
Everyone seems so friendly and bubbly, seems like an environment I would want to be at. Too bad the UCSB and UCSD open house are on the same day …
@akizaka46 Did they say anything about the Honors Program at UCSB? Are people who are invited to the Chancellor’s Reception more likely to be invited into the Honors program?
International student here…
Denied by UCSD, Waitlisted at Davis…
SAT 1250
Math level 2 700
Essays are solid
ECs are solid as well (made three games for iOS and started a company)
Major: Computer Science
I am praying day and night for UCLA and UCSB haha
Do you guys think I have a chance?
@caliguy1111 what’s your UC GPA?
@Avancer I don’t know. I’m an international student so our GPA system was out of 10 in 10th grade and in 11th out of 100%
So mine was 9.0/10 in 10th grade
and 70% in 11th grade
@SillyJillie423 They didn’t say anything about the Honors program at the reception, and the UCSB website just says that some freshmen are invited to the Honors program. I would imagine that they would be choosing Honors students from the pool invited to the reception (the top 15% of applicants), so I guess if you got an invite, you’re more likely to get into Honors than, say, someone who didn’t get the invite, but it’s not a sure guarantee.
On another note, you can still apply to the Honors program as a freshman or sophomore at UCSB!
We attended the LA Chancellor’s reception. It was really well done and definitely made us take a closer look at UCSB. My son was accepted as a Regent’s scholar and in the Honor’s program (because of his major in Computer Eng); also accepted at UCB (no Regent’s) and UCSD (Regent’s) and Cal Poly. Waiting to hear (this week?) if he’s accepted at UCLA and whether he might be a Regent’s scholar there. UCSB just looks like it has such a nice campus and student body, and the Regent’s scholarship is worth a lot more there, too. A lot of people tell us we are crazy to consider UCSB over CalPoly, UCLA or Berkely, but I tend to want to disagree.
Also, did anyone go to the brunch before the reception yesterday or know what it was for?
My daughter and I attended the UCSB LA Chancellor’s Reception yesterday. The chancellor and his wife were very friendly and spoke to my daughter for a while. The presentation was great and the staff addressed all our questions. It seems like a very beautiful school. I wish their Open House weekend was not the same day as UCSD!
