Sorry this is a bit late in the game to be chancing myself… just curious because i’m out of state
This is just a general question for all UCs. Apparently my math section of the ACT is not considered passing, passing is 22 and I scored 21 (math has never been my strong suit) I have gotten into a couple cal states, rejected at UCD. I was wondering if UCs will accept me because it’s not passing, I have above average stats but they aren’t super duper high and my essays were excellent. I’m wondering if the 21 math score is what’s dragging me down. So basically my question is, has anyone been accepted with an non-passing ELM score?
@Emsibz
If you don’t pass, don’t they just make you take a placement test or something? I’m not too sure, but I think the requirements count as pre-reqs but shouldn’t affect admissions that much?
“Three years (four years recommended) of college-preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry. Approved integrated math courses may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement, as may math courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses.” – taken from the UC admissions site. There are more specific details regarding test scores that fulfill certain requirements on the site as well.
@Emsibz: Depending upon your major at UCSB, you might have to take a Math placement exam to sign up for Calculus if needed.
Most UC’s will have a Math Placement test that may be required for your major.
Hey! For future seniors lurking out there. If you get the Chancellor’s Reception invitation, YOU ARE IN. I attended the LA reception and within the first five minutes they told us all we were IN and that we were among the top 15% of applicants!
(also, UCSD rolled out a similar reception as well, and that is another indicator of acceptance)
Too funny @sandiegan When my son and I visited Stanford ( just for kicks…we were in the area ), that he could never get into, he said proudly “Stanford needs this swag.”
@KuyaStiel Possibly. According to UCSB, “Spring Insight is a campus-wide open house welcoming admitted students, prospective students and their families to campus.”
