I got accepted into UCSB as a TRANSFER student, so I want to know how hard it would be to change my major? I got accepted as a sociology major, and I was wondering how hard it would be to change it to either an economics and accounting major or a communications major. Would it be smart to make this move? Any advice?

Real easy, go to the department you want to transfer into and they’ll give you a form in which you fill out. As for econ and accounting, there might be a problem. You’re required to take econ 10A, formerly econ 100A, and it’s a 2.85 requirement and it’ll be the only class to determine your GPA major. Though I’ve seen a student with a B- luckily get in, it’s not a pleasant process. You’ll need a solid B and you’ll be in for sure, though if you study and focus, it’s not a hard class

The thing is, I’m a transfer student; therefore, I’m not sure how hard it would be for me. I’n community college I took Macro economics ( received an “A”), and I took Math 140 which happens to be the class before Calculus for Social Sciences. I want to know about the process and be 100% sure of it because if I need to send my SIR. Once I send it, there is no turning back.

then you need to call the department

Yeah, I figured.

I just want to hear from other people’s view, opinion, etc.

Actually as a transfer student, you cannot switch majors from soc to any of the majors you mentioned because of your transfer contract. The only possibility to switch majors for transfer students is when you can’t finish your current major and transferring to another major will make you graduate on time.

How do you know this?
