***UCSB Class of 2018 Official Decisions Thread***

Just so everyone knows, I called the UCSB office today to ask about appealing and they said they don’t want waitlisted students to submit an appeal, they would rather leave that for denied students. I was waitlisted as well and was planning to appeal but I’m not sure whether to do so anymore. I was waitlisted at SD too and there aren’t really any other schools I want to go to… So frustrating…

@TellMelmaPossum My daughter isn’t in the top 10 percent of her class. She’s not even in the top 25. Ranking is just a snippet of the big picture. It tells so little. For example, it doesn’t tell you she’s in a competitive program for which only 40 of the 120 that applied were accepted. It doesn’t tell you that being an 11th/12th grade program, all the kids transferred in from different schools with different weighting scales. D’s previous school didn’t weight period and so she came in without the weighted gpa all her other classmates had. It doesn’t tell you 14 was a hard age for her and that her lower GPA is due to one rough semester sandwiched between perfection. It doesn’t tell you that despite her rank, the staff see her as the most competitive student in the class and she’s had the highest GPA the last 3 semesters. This is my long way of saying YOU, like my daughter, are more than your rank. Don’t feel insecure about getting into UCSB with a lower rank than you are seeing here. You obviously showed them something they wanted and be proud of that.

@cdanny I can see you are really upset. It’s hard to watch your child deal with rejection but how we deal with it as parents colors how our children will handle it throughout their life. Your sons stats are average for Santa Barbara and average offers no promises. All the schools you mentioned were not safeties for him. Since California has MANY other schools that WOULD have been safeties, you can hardly lash out at a system that simply didn’t give him the few, more competitive schools he wanted. I do hope you encouraged him to apply where his stats would be higher than average. I know, you see some random post about some kid getting in with lower stats and think “what the heck” but in reality, you know nothing else about that kid. You weren’t sitting in that room comparing applications. You have no idea what uniqueness, passion and ability that kid has to offer. You don’t know his trajectory or the potential that his application displayed. Instead of comparing your kid to a person you know a whole 3 sentences about, maybe consider that your sons stats, his EC’s, his essay didn’t portray a “good fit” for the schools he applied to.

@lwyrwood nailed it. @bonehead3535 Congrats! You deserve it! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. :)

Damn, I love seeing these moms get heated. lol #goucsb

Accepted! Film and Media Studies.

Also got accepted to UC Davis, UCSD, UCSC SDSU, CSULB, CSUMB, & CSU Fullerton.
Yep, I had low SAT scores, but obviously they liked something about me. (Passion maybe? )
Congrats to all who were accepted!

im black and got rejected with a 3.3 gpa and 1790 sat
weird because i had the worst hardships anyone can have

I just got this startling email from an email called santabarbaraboy@gmail.com.

Dear Johnson:
After careful revaluation of your transcript, we regret to inform you that we are revoking your admission to UCSB.

If attending UCSB remains your ambition, you should know that there is another opportunity for admission later in your academic career: applying as a junior-level transfer student. You can learn more about the transfer option at www.admission.ucsb.edu/transfer.

I understand this is disappointing news. While no language in a decision letter can lessen that disappointment, please know that we understand the emotional investment you have made in this process and take this responsibility very seriously. We wish you all the best in your collegiate experience.

Sincerely,

Office of the Registrar
Undergraduate Admission

Is this actually legit?

Someone is pulling your leg. No official UC contact is going to come from “santabarbaraboy”!
It would be an .edu ending at least

this^^

@Stat2014‌ yeah, it’s really wack. Accepted to UC Davis and UCSD, but denied from UCSB. Definitely seems like luck of the draw.

@stat22‌ just realized this is 2014. My bad!

WHY YOU THINK YOU WERE ACCEPTED/WAITLISTED/REJECTED:
All IGETC requirements completed, Major prep also completed, Consistent grades, TAGed to UCSB, consistent involvement in College Community.
I do not believe that I was admitted for my ethnic background. I applied as a Communications Major to UCSB as a high school senior with a 4.0 and strong extracurricular activities. My Personal Statement was about my involvement in my culture. I was denied as a senior.
The second time around, I applied as a Economics Accounting major to UCSB. I utilized our transfer center on campus, completed all courses required and went through the TAG program. My college GPA was a 3.34, and I worked very hard on my personal statements.
