Very surprised I got in, I think my essays saved me.
@StacysMom24 The thing is though I’m not really sure if I engineering is what I want to do. I do enjoy math, but I also seriously considered economics, which is why I put Undeclared L&S as an alternate. During this year, I feel like I became more interested in economics, and that also has plenty of math. I’m beginning to think that that is what I would rather study. That’s why I asked about the major on here. They said at UCSB they automatically consider you for your second choice major, but that might not be entirely true. They may consider you for it, but me less likely to accept you for it because they think you won’t go there for your second choice.
ACCEPTED!

@127parent thank you for the information! Unfortunately I have the exact same stats and have been waitlisted from UCD and UCSB this year I have SLO but hoping for other options for CS!
@floppedover I’m in the same boat as you. What do you plan on doing? UCSB is my dream school but I didn’t get admitted for CS and I know that it’s hard to transfer into it.
@FlyYellow As a Cal alum, I can certainly sympathize, but Cal Poly is a great school too. I think if they called it UC SLO we wouldn’t have the same bias. The internship opportunities seem to be at least as good at SLO. Funny story, a few days after our kid was rejected from Berkeley his grandmother (both grandparents also Cal alums) got a call from Cal asking for a donation. Man, I wouldn’t have wanted to be on the other end of that call!!
Thanks for your kind words! Getting into UCB would be so amazing!
@youcee I have been admitted for CS to
Davis, Santa Cruz, SDSU, San Jose State, CSU Chico, and Long Beach State. UCSB was my number one tho
@chris3 You have many good choices and numerous people would be ecstatic with them. That’s a really hard major to get admitted to anywhere in California, you did great.
Based upon the CS orientation that we attended after his acceptance last year, SLO is as difficult to get in as UCSB for CS. I don’t remember the stats but I remember thinking that is very very competitive. The size is double that of UCSB. We liked the professors who spoke and were very impressed with the program. When comparing schools, Dig deep into the CS classes that are offered to see if they are of interest to you. My son was persuaded to pick UCSB by of the cybesecurity work by Prof. Vigna and the cyber programs and offerings. A relative also transferred from UCSB to SLO and enjoyed his SLO experience much more.

Far from incredible stats, but I think my ECs and essays really helped. It’s not impossible to get into good schools with lower stats. Also accepted to UCSC, UC Davis, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, and more. Go for it!
S Rejected. CS. In state. SAT 1540, 3.8x UW, 4.3X UC GPA.SAT Math 800, Physics 760. Very competitive high school. Accepted UCD, UCI. Thought it is a safe school.
@youcee yes I gave every year every single $ they ever asked of me as an alumni. But as far as I’m concerned they are thus far opting out in favor of some OOS short term $. I’m still hopeful for UCSD (as that my DS’s first choice). He rightfully views Cal and UCLA as lottery tickets and that wouldn’t have me upset. So far he’s been accepted to a couple of top 10 engineering schools, so what does upset me is that our in-state public schools turn away our CA kids who are pretty accomplished. In any case, yes Cal Poly is awesome!
@ChrispBear …
Same here…accepted to UCSB Environmental Science and haven’t heard from SLO-Arch my actual 1st choice, so crazy…)
What’s with the pre-major thing? D was accepted pre-Chemistry. Do some get admitted directly to major with out the “pre”?
@collegemom111111 no one is accepted direct to their chosen chem or bio major from what I understand. Pre-bio means that you have pre-reqs to complete before being eligible for your chosen major.
My D didn’t have the word ‘pre’ , it simply says she is admitted to physics major.
