Good EC’s
Math club for 2 years

@amira234 Yes, my daughter heard of some for SB and D… as well as SDSU the other week (that surprised me).

@GrumpyOldEngr - wow…you would think that UCSB should have at least waitlisted her. CS is a tough admit but it’s not impossible tough… if she got into MIT and Caltech I’m sure she must have amazing stats.

How is the financial aid at UCSB for out of state students.
the family income is about 35000 USD and We were sceptical about wether we could send our son to college

@agilityELITE My HS had 25 accepted to UCSB last year from a pool of 60 applicants. This year we only have 6 accepted to SB from a similarly sized applicant pool. So wack. I had two friends waitlisted at UCSC with 1500s and one of them was rejected from Davis. I don’t know what to make of it honestly. I guess you can’t feel bad. The UCs might be trying to increase their yield/ diversify this year.

@sadhighschoolbib Wow, I got accepted to SDSU and CSULB, but rejected by UCSB.

@Jason101200, @putinator
My D has very close to what you have… UCD Waitlist, reject UCSB… she had her hopes on UCSB :frowning:

Waiting for this friday…

I have a 3.96 UW and 4.21 weighted GPA, 1390 SAT, 28 ACT, founder/president of club, two varsity sports since freshman(captain of one), 300+ hours of community service, still rejected. Also waitlist for Davis.

Accepted to all cal states, so confused.

Bump

@mathewizzer there really isn’t any need-based FA given by the UCs for OOS students. Yep, it’s going to cost around $65K per year.

@ProfessorPlum168 I was joking with my D that I deal with randomness (noise) on a daily basis due to the nature of my profession. But I wave white flag when my colleague asked me how to explain what happened to my D with a 6-sigma event…sorry for the dry and nerdy humor. Thanks for the compliment.

REJECTED!

This was one of my target schools. I guess you never really know… UC’s are a total CRAPSHOT! :frowning:

GPA: 4.43
ACT: 33
EC: CSF Club President, chairman of community service at school, volunteer at children’s hospital, gate research program, camp counselor job during summer, etc.
ELC: YES
(TOP 5%)

Some of my friends with much better stats got rejected as well. Super confused lol. Like someone mentioned, maybe they are trying to diversify. But hey, UCLA comes out this Friday? (I think?)

Congrats to all accepted!!!

I AGREE!!! So many overqualified people are being rejected :frowning:

Accepted to College of Letters and Science for Cultural Anthropology!
In state (not local), first gen
GPA: UC Capped 4.3, UW 4.0
ACT: 30 composite with a 10 in writing
I don’t know if they really count but I got a 4 on APUSH and 5s on AP Euro and AP Lit
ECs: two clubs w leadership, ASB, academic decathlon, theatre (until end of sophomore year)
About 100 volunteer hours
No work xp
Some awards but nothing crazy
I think personal statements can be significant boosts for the application. I’m a pretty good writer, and my topic choices were slightly unorthodox (I wrote about makeup as a form of artistic expression and how one’s physical environment does not dictate the freedom they have) which may have given me an additional edge. Some people brush personal statements (esp for the UCs) to the side thinking that they’re a minimal consideration, but I think that the questions are a good way to share your character with the adcoms.
So happy to have been accepted and congratulations to everyone else!

Our daughter was well below the 25%-75% stats from last year, but she got accepted. Only a 1040 on the SAT, 3.7ish GPA. I really think the essays and the four year multi-sport athlete angle made the difference.

This was my Ds top choice and she was waitlisted, but accepted to UCI Honors and Cal Poly SLO and a bunch of other schools. Has only heard of 1 person at her school accepted when usually there’s about 20. Both her GPA and ACT score are above the 75th percentile. What’s going on this year? Waiting on UCLA and UCB, but UCSB was her first choice.

D Accepted at UCSB
Pre-Biology
OOS
GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT:1410
SAT II: 540 Spanish, 650 Literature
ACT: 31

Waitlisted
SAT 1320
3.77 GPA tough school

What should I do?
