Accepted!!
Got into my first choice major of Pre-political science at the College of Letters and Science.
Im honestly surprised I got in because I always hear getting in from out of state is harder with UC schools.
STATS:
ACT: 27 (i have a higher ACT score but i had to submit writing lmao)
GPA: 3.9 UW
I have lotssss of extracurriculars and im in the exec board of most. ive also done theatre for years and it takes about 40 hours of my week.
I have over 250 service hours because its school required
I honestly thought the 4 essays i wrote were the best out of all the ones i wrote for college in general
Waitlisted at UCSB and I’m so disheartened. It was my dream school.
Major: Biology
UC GPA: 4.2
ACT: 28
Some good extracurriculars as well as a competitive summer internship at a hospital. 200+ hours of community service. 3/4 of my essays were strong in my opinion. I don’t know where to go from here but I’m holding out hope for UCI and UCSD.
Accepted!
GPA: 4.4 W/3.9 UW
SAT: 1390
Extracurriculars: Varsity athlete for 4 years, numerous community service activities
Major: Environmental Studies
@Noliwat my S was accepted to mech eng. 4.42 GPA, 1580 SAT, 800 PYS SAT, 740 MATH 2 SAT. Hundreds of com svc(real type), good EC’s, great essays…Accepted at: Cal Poly, full ride offered at SCU, Waitlist at Caltech. Reject at H. Mudd. Waiting for UCLA/USC. Where else did you apply? DO you think UCSB is better than C. Poly? As good as Caltech. (cost if a big factor for us too). Thanks, from a momma bear
@BeCheap4me2 Congrats! UCSB COE is very very competitive! My kiddo was also accepted into CPSLO for General Engineering. He is waiting to hear from SD (for Biology) and UCB (for undeclared engineering). He loves CPSLO and will likely go there, but he is not 100% sure yet.
UCSB and CPSLO are rival schools and are very similar. If you have not toured both, you should so your son can see for himself. Both engineering programs are exceptional, and for a UC, SB’s COE is very hands-on. Both are lovely campuses in expensive tourist areas.
In contrast to these two fabulous universities with tremendous outdoor activities and social opportunities is that small school in Pasadena that many consider the best engineering program in the world. With a 3:1 student-faculty ratio, CalTech produces graduates who will earn back the cost of their student loans. That said, if cost is a big factor, I would strongly consider the free ride at SCU and save for graduate school. SCU is prestigious and will prepare your son for graduate studies if that is his goal.

3 years of sports and a decent amount of EC. Good luck everyone.
@justaskingtoo you mentioned about college of engineering and college of creative science. We are too a little confused. When my daughter received the invite to apply to CCS we assumed that she didn’t get into computer engineering (her first choice) and her application was in L&S Math (her second choice). She submitted her application to CCS Math and received an email indicating that the committee liked her application and invited her to a CCS open house. She signed up for a date in April. I was told by someone on this list who attended an open house in February that the invite means she got in to CCS So she was surprised when she got her acceptance yesterday to Computer Engineering. Earlier when I watched a video on CCS graduation there were a few people who majored in CCS and Engineering, so I guess it is possible but the combination seems like a lot. I guess we will just attend the open house and find out what the best fit is.
My girl just got the official email that she’s in at the College of Creative Studies for Chemistry/Bio Chem. So excited that there is an option that might keep her in CA : )
