UCSB CS(Engineering) vs. UCSD Math-CS vs. UWashington Seattle Pre-Science

So I prepare to choose in these three universities. For UCSD and UW I intend to transfer to CSE(basically CS in engineering school). I know it’s VERY hard, so I want to know if UCSB’s CS(engineering) is better than Math-CS in UCSD(in the case I was not admitted) and whether students at UW have any other choice if not admitted to CSE.

BTW, I also intend to transfer to UCBerkeley(not only for academic purposes), will these schools have different acceptance rates?(I’m worrying that it’s hard to transfer within UC schools).

P.S. I’m an international student

If I were you id personally do UCSD for Math- CS as their engineering programs are more prestigious than UCSB or UW. UCSB is a big party school and UW is also a great school but if your not a fan of the cold weather than it might not be for you. Personally UCSD seems like the better choice for you

Not sure where you get that ucsd engineering is more prestigious than udub’s.

My daughter has a very similar choice as you. She has ucsd applied math, UCSB comp sci, and Udub pre-science.

For you to transfer at UCSD from math to CSE is a huge risk. They have changed their system to lottery.
UDub you can apply for CSE or CS or whatever. Each major has a different difficulty level to get in. CS you need around a 3.7 which is around 93/94 out of hundred. Statistics is around 3.4. I’m not sure what it is for CSE.
UCSBs comp sci program is up and coming and is also high regarded.
You will need to research the difficulty lvl of transferring to UCB CSE. But I’m going to assume that if you are good enough to do so, you wouldn’t of had problems getting into CSE at UDub.

My son is going to be applying for stats and/or physics at UDub and my daughter has a 90+% chance of choosing UDub. For her the key points are UDubs programs and her brother.

My opinion would actually be more towards UDub and UCSB.

@Jliu32472 Are you saying only 6-7% of kids got 3.7 (A-) average at UW? That’s harsh isn’t it? What’re the screening classes?

@collegebound4197 UCB EECS would be hard to transfer no matter where from. Are you into more CS or CE. If CE just go to UCSB if you don’t hate beaches :). Its engineering may not be that mainstream but it’s a quality one. If you are into more pure CS and like math (a lot) then M-CS at UCSD may work. Otherwise, I think it’s more likely to transfer into CS at UW or UCSB. Forget about UCSD. It’s damn hard before (3.9-4.0) and now out of your control (10% chance random).
