Nope. I get the apartment all to myself. Whatchu talking about. Thanks to the awesome priority wait list, I get a whole one bedroom apartment for me and my cat
“Cat”
I think I know what your old account name was.
@uchopeful414
Heh. It appears that most of the upperclassmen apartments still jam students in two to a room. I’m pushing 40; is there a retirement community somewhere that’s renting?
@yakattak there is off campus housing in Isla Vista and if you look around you may be able to find a single but they are usually quite pricey. You can also look into renting from someone in Goleta, I know there are usually a few families or young couples or even grad students who rent out rooms in some pretty decent homes. You can also look for housing Downtown in Santa Barbara if you don’t mind a short drive or bus ride to UCSB. Hopefully that helps you.
Check your financial aid! My unofficial award is available.
I have no idea what you’re talking about:) @BlackPlasma Also, given your veteran status, you could pull a few strings and probably get one of the studios, or one bedrooms they have. For those who put on their fasfa they are going to be on campus, you get funded more if you do. If you plan to live off campus they won’t provide you with as much money
@cheolf I don’t know how to read this thing lmao. It looks like everything is covered except for 10k, but then federal student loans and work study covers that.
@100789 To keep it simple, anything under “grants” is “free money” that you don’t have to pay back. So in your case, your cost of attendance would effectively be ~$10k.
That’s pretty gooD. If you don’t mind me asking what bracket of income do you fall under? Just a range so I can see how much I would get funded
@100789
Mine is around 12k, and my father makes around 100k. But I benefit from the fact that I have a brother in college as well.
@Cheolf That sounds rather reasonable. The only thing I’m worried about is work study. I’ve never had that nor know what it is aside from the fact that you work an on-campus job.
@uchopeful414 I’m considered by FAFSA an independent student, and I make $6,500 a year. So… poor is my income bracket, lmao.
@100789 Yeah, trust me, plenty of people would kill to graduate with only ~20k in debt from an institution such as UCSB.
I just became independent this year and have a net income of 0. So I think you and I are in the same boat. Did you get federal and state grants included in that package @100789?
And yeah that’s a lot. My ex goes to UCR and her pops makes around 120k and she gets NOTHING
However, my UCR financial aid package is roughly 37k in grants. So I may be inclined to just stay there regardless of other acceptances. Hopefully I get into somewhere else and they are as generous as UCR. But I think UCR and I are kind of a match made in heaven.
@uchopeful414 Holy cow. So basically you can go to Riverside at no cost? It will be interesting to see your other FA offers.
Yeah. I actually have an excess over the “cost of attendance” so pretty much all you can ask for in college minus the debt. It’s a full time job being a student, might as well get payed like it
