But again my example for pre psych. The requirements are stats, intro to psych, research methods, and biological psych to et into PRE major. But many people got in without them but according this Asssist.
Students are admitted initially to Pre-Psychology, not directly to the major.
Admission to the full Psychology major is contingent upon fulfilling the
following requirements:
(1) Completion of all pre-major courses with a grade point average of at least
2.7 in those courses completed at the University of California; (2) No course
with a grade lower than C-; (3) Not more than one course with a C-; (4) No
courses taken PASS/NOT PASS; (5) Students must satisfy pre-major courses and GPA
requirement prior to the completion of 144 total quarter units.
So as you can see, it’s also a requirement but doesn’t make or break an admission
It would make no sense because no one would be getting admitted. You really think that all admits for bio finished those courses?
solotish is correct. Without completing the biology series there is no way to be admitted even to pre-bio. It is required to transfer. I am only missing ochem which was a recommended prereq, not a required prereq. The biology series is a REQUIRED prereq.
Alright alright. My bad. I guess my assumptions were just because all other pre majors have the same criteria but they somehow still get in without difficulty. What’s the point in even applying then if you know you’re just going to get denied then?
My apologies solostish. I was mistaken. I guess I was naive to UCSBs strict rules about getting in. Just never heard of something being REQUIRED or you get automatic denial. That’s a shame for people like what’s his name, with a 4.0 Gpa and missing necessary classes
Any PRE-COMM admitted students with missing pre-reqs considering attending UCSB during the summer to fulfill any/all of the requirements before fall? I am missing three so I’m debating whether I want to go ahead and take classes during the summer or register at Santa Barbara Community College and take an online course there to fulfill one pre-req. That would leave me with only two requirements going into the fall before I’m fully a communications major. Thoughts anyone? Fellow pre-comm majors?
I’m still on Decision Pending, and the wait is killing me!
Major: Econ and Accounting
UC GPA: 3.94
TAG: no
IGETC: Will be completed after spring
ECs and Work: I would say, quite a few. In fact, I managed to fill up all the spaces possible.
Personal Statement: I’ll say 9/10
Schools Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCD, UCSD, UCI
Accepted: None (still waiting)
on the other hand, I have a friend who applied the same major, got accepted with only a 3.2 GPA, 1 EC, and 0 Work experiences. International student.
I heard from several counselors, that if we didn’t receive our acceptance notice during the first week, we may be borderline students… who might ended up being “rejected” or “waitlisted”. Is it true?
I am extremely worried. Does anyone know how UC evaluate students? Was it because I’m a poor kid who applied FAFSA while my friend is one of those kids that can pay the full tuition in cash got accepted way ahead of me? I heard recent years, UCs are in debt, and most had become money hungry.
@coredz I’m applying as an out of state and will pay full OOS in cash and am still pending. 4.0 in prereqs and 3.8 overall transfer GPA, interesting/relevant work xp for Computer Engineering. Stay positive and patient, I’m sure you’ll land more than a couple on your list.
I know a few people who got accepted without calculus in 2014/2015. A friend of mine (same major) who applied in 2014 got accepted to all 4 UCs that she applied to: UCSB, UCLA, UCI & (one other I can’t rmb) But I’m getting rly anxious at this point bc I haven’t heard from UCSB yet.
Anyways don’t read too much about it, remember if they did not want you and if you were going to end up getting rejected they would have done so already.
I don’t know if this is accurate or not but someone else on this thread claimed that the UC’s don’t even look at your financial information until after you have been admitted.
I think they only know a International Student will be paying with their own money because they know for a fact they won’t qualify for any fasfa or cal grant.
So who really knows. (I have a 3.3ish with all my pre-reqs completed for econ/acc.)
BTW, there are still people with TAG who are pending.
So happy to hear back from one school so far. Im curious about UCSB’s Biopsychology program. If anyone has any information please let me know that’d be great!
