@HeideggerNSartre My school doesn’t offer a correlating course for “Introduction to Political Research” and neither does any community college in my immediate area. Sorry for the confusion.
@CATransfer2016 Sameee, I suppose that’s just a class they only offer at SB
.
They really don’t read personal statements…

i just wanted to say that I, @UCMtoUCSBHopeful , love UCSB. I really don’t care for any of the other UCs I applied to. Only UCSB. FINGERS CROSSED.
dsa;lk;aslkdf;aslkdf;laskjf;lksd I NEED TO KNOW IF I GOT IN OR NOT.
@UCMtoUCSBHopeful I agree with you 100%. If I get into UCSB I feel like I could die happy and complete
Alright brodies. Kinda concerned but not really. UCSB is my second choice right behind SD.
Major: Econ
UC-Transferable GPA: 3.19-3.2
IGETC: DUNZO
Prereq’s: Knocked out
EC’s: Im a G
TAG: SB
Just calculated my final gpa the other day and im pretty upset that I came out to exactly 3.19. However, some of my classes are from a previous university that I attended. I ended up getting into a bad car accident and had to get immediate surgery. This was all towards the end of the semester so the whole situation caused me to miss a lot of classes and lower my GPA. I did talk about this in my personal statement and wrote a letter which i submitted in the app but am worried that they will hold that .1 against me and disqualify my tag. Any thoughts of how strict they are with the 3.2 minimum?
Did you use the same terminology as you did in your post? Cuz if you did you’re probably going to get rejected.
Also SB doesn’t read personal statements. So based off your Gpa and you being a “G” id say you have about a 50/50 chance
@Collegebro1996 I’m pretty certain they would stick with their threshold. I could be wrong, but I don’t see why they would budge. The problem with being lenient with a requirement is when do you draw the line?
Take the heap of sand idea. 1,000,000 grains of sand is a heap of sand. Does that meant 999,999 grains is not a heap of sand? If it is, is 999,998 grains not a heap of sand? So and and so forth. The line must be draw at some point.
I really hope you do get admitted. It certainly sounds like you’ve been through some very difficult hardships. If we’re going strictly by numbers and assume your TAG is nullified, I don’t think your chances are high. But we don’t know how holistic they will be when reviewing your application. Best of luck to you.
Of course, the best thing to do would be to email them. They may or may not give you an answer as to whether your TAG would be nullified, but at least then you would have tried to obtain information from an official source.
@Countchocula25 Yeah under the additional info section I talked about how popular I was in high school and how I got 100% on expert on the song “through the fire and flames” in Guitar Hero 3. However, I left out how I was a G, do you think that will lower my chances???
@Cheolf Thanks. I really do hope it does work out, I figured shooting them an email would be my best shot. I am currently in the process of petitioning to have the grades received during the time of the accident dropped from my transcript but the academic advising department of SJSU SUCKS and is so unprofessional. They wont even acknowledge my time crunch even when its almost been a year since I submitted it.
Nah you’re good. But in all seriousness, your chances aren’t THAT bad. This year is the most opportune time to apply to UCs. 3.2 would have been bad previous years, but I’d say you are a 50/50.
Why is this year the most opportune time to apply? :-SS
@LopApo because of the enrollment increase plan. For the next 3 years UC is increasing enrollement by 10000. AND 2016 will be increased by 5000 of that 10000. they are doing this to make room for California residents. So they are putting a cap on out of state students and making room for MORE CALIFORNIA KIDS WOOOO. So anyway 5000 additional between the 9 campuses. So far what I know for sure is Santa Cruz is getting 300 of those 5000. 200 freshman and 100 transfers. Davis is the best, they are adding 1000 of those 5000. 1/3 being freshman and 2/3 BEING TRANSFERS. that’s an additional 600+ transfers. You catch my drift right?
oh yeahh, completely forgot about that
@Countchocula25 where are you getting those numbers, regarding enrollment targets specifically at those campuses?
From the school websites themselves. Davis actually boasts about it quite a bit. They even mention it in the local Sacramento newspaper. I have been checking up on them a lot and looking into it a bit. If you just google UCenrollement increase and either of those two campuses, you should find it.
