My son liked the vibe more at UCSB even though he’s not much of a party guy. Just felt smaller, tighter, and on the beach. Honors is a big edge but the sense is that UCSD might be stronger in his intended major.

I was a History/Global Studies minor at UCSB and loved it! Having honors status at a UC is huge! UCSB and UCSD have comparable history programs, so the honors status definitely gives the tilt to UCSB. His impression of the UCSB community feeling small and tight-knit, is spot on. There’s a reason UCSB is rated highly not just for it’s academics but also for having the “happiest students”. I miss my days of studying on the beach! Best of luck to your son.
