Coming from a community college, I was accepted into as a Sociology transfer. I sent an email to admissions asking to change my major to Biopsychology but now I'm a little worried that I didn't think things through thoroughly enough.

I'm going to be transferring with IGETC and an AA in Sociology, but the pre-reqs for biopsych are a lot different than sociology. Will asking to change my major to something with different pre-reqs after I've already been admitted be an issue (possible decision rescended after submitting transcripts?) or will I be OK because I was already accepted for sociology and will have those courses completed?

If it comes down to it, I'll hopefully be able to stick with sociology just to stay at my dream school and then request a major change at a later date.

I was accepted into the College of Letters and Science if that makes any difference.

Last year I went to their Transfer day thing/openhouse thingy and I asked this question cuz I got accepted as a Classics Civilization concentration in Archaeology major and I wanted just to do Anthro…and the adviser that day told me that it would be no problem because it was at the College of Letters and Science and its a social science and its not that hard to do it.
She said to do it ASAP though.
But
you should call the department you want to switch majors to.

I will be looking forward to get some more info on this

please keep posting…

I want to change my major from biz-econ to bio…

but i asked them but they wouldn’t change it until i finish all the pre-req courses

But it is still in same department which is college and letters and sciences.

So my plan was taking few GE classes at UCSB and take bio class at SBCC

and then change my major… any info would be great…

Thanks for the replies, I’ll let you guys know what happens either way.

If anyone else had gone through this process it would be great to hear more.

I got an email from the UCSB administration office today letting me know that they went ahead and changed my major.

Only thing I’m worried about now is that my pre-reqs they accepted me for (sociology) aren’t going to be the same as what I should have for biopsychology. Would they accept me, allow me to change majors, and then take away my acceptance after the fact for not having the proper pre-reqs?

I’m probably just over analyzing this, heh.

it probably will effect you if you dont have the proper pre-reqs.

BUT u should be fine if you have the IGETC complete…

i have igetc tho… if that helps… I will ask once more and will come back to this thread

when i get some more info… lets keep this topic for a while…

I got another email from the UCSB admissions department:

“Your change in major has not impacted your admit status.”

My requested major change is also showing up on the UCSB admissions page so that’s good enough for me at this point.

Why don’t you double major?

I’m going to be an incoming transfer to UCSB this summer. I just got in under sociology and will hopefully be doing psychology after that. Sociology is only 36 upper-division units so I found it a good chance to double major.

I might consider doing that, but I mostly just wanted to be taking more science and math courses.
