you should call or come to UCSB and tell them in person. make puppy dog eyes and make sure you have an eye drop =) (make sure it's a female as well) try your best to explain the situation to them. there's a letter that says they won't reconsider their fin aid package. however, i think, if you make a good enough case, they might

My dad's an abusive homosexual, my mom is clinically insane, my brother is disabled. My entire childhood/homelife is and was completely terrible and getting into UCSB was my one way of getting out and away from it all to make my life on my own, and now that's basically shattered.
I've worked harder than anyone I know to overcome all that crap and get into school, and to have that taken away from me is really.....gah idk.
idk why i even said all that.

^^Sounds like one of my friends. She was gonna go to CO for college but now her messed up fam. can't afford it and she's going to city college instead.

i'd rather die than stay here.
my mom just freaked the hell out on me because when i went to use E-check and asked her for the check book, she was convinced that UCSB was trying to rob her, freaked out, started yelling at me, and said no to paying it.
WHAT THE ****.

i don't get why god makes my life so hard.
UGHHHHHHHH

are you SIR'ing to UCSB? if you are make sure your mom knows that, that she's on the up and up. explain to her that you need to make a deposit to UCSB as well as any other school you'll attend

I can't view my unofficial award letter online.. Anybody have any luck?

The screen changed and all it shows me was:

Is it supposed to say this?
"We were unable to match your UCSB Perm Number with a Financial Aid Application. Either UCSB did not receive your FAFSA or there is a mismatch between your FAFSA data and the Admissions Offices and/or Registrars data. Please log off and try again. Please make sure that your name, birth date and social security number are the same on your FAFSA and your Admission or Registration records. If necessary, make necessary corrections. If you did file a FAFSA and you continue to get this message after you have verified that your information is correct, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (805) 893-2432."

I just got this. Hope it helps.

Subject: [UCSB] IMPORTANT NOTICE (Unofficial Award Letter)

The UCSB Financial Aid Office received your 2009-2010 FAFSA. To assist you with your decision to attend UCSB, we determined your unofficial financial aid eligibility, and we posted the results on the UCSB Admissions Office web site.

Please note that due to the tremendous volume of admitted applicants who applied for financial aid, we are unable to provide a recalculation of your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) should you update your FAFSA data after your unofficial aid eligibility is determined or if you wish a recalculation based on your family’s special circumstances.

To access your "Unofficial Award Letter", please go to UCSB Admissions and click on the "Admitted Students" link. Once you access your file, you can view both your admissions status and unofficial financial aid eligibility information. The link to your "Unofficial Award Letter" will be located on the navigation bar on the left side of the page.

I'm confused. So where is my find net cost of attendance located?

IV. UNOFFICIAL TOTAL (II plus III): (subject to verification) $27257

Does that mean I got, like, no aid at all LOL

POSSIBLE CAL GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Possible Cal Grant Eligibility $7788

III. UNOFFICIAL NEED BASED AID
UCSB New Freshman Scholarship $1200
Chancellor's Scholarship $2000
Federal Pell Grant $2700
University of California Grant $5205
Federal Work-Study $1900
Federal Perkins Loan $2300

So without the loans and work study, and with the Cal Grant stuff I got $18,893, so need to pay $8364.

^I'd say that's pretty damn good.

^

i got about the same, 18225

Did you guys already send in your SIR?

I got $19,557 without loans and work study :)

I just sent in my SIR.

I would have been absolutely SCREWED without my Regents scholarship. UCSD gave me $1,500 worth of free money. UCSB gave me $12,500. What a lifesaver!

Man, you guys are so lucky. My EFC is too high. :/ They only gave me like $300. So sad.

I got about the same, Imgoingtocollege.

Do you need your UCSBnetID to find out your financial aid status? I'm looking at my unofficial award letter but I can't find the financial aid and it won't let me create a UCSBnetID because it says they don't have records of me or something.

Reading that aid letter is a little confusing, haha.

My EFC is around 14500, and I'm getting about 3500 in free money. That's like, 9000 in sub/unsub/Plus loans.. ugh...
