UCSB Official Financial Aid Thread

^^

I'd be happy with $3500! My EFC is 18,600 or something like that. Pretty close to $19000. I wish I got free money. :( I'll have to get $9000 in loans too!

Woot high five ***** haha

My EFC is around $14,400 but thankfully my Regents scholarship is providing me with $12,500. I still have $14,400 worth of PLUS and unsubsidized loans, though.

UCSB Scholarship - RS $3200
UCSB New Freshman Scholarship $1200
University of California Grant $8200
Regents Scholarship $6000

WOW.

man, i had my choices down to just a few schools..........then UCSB comes in and meets ALL of my aid.

How is my aid? I don't really understand it.
EFC 0
III. UNOFFICIAL NEED BASED AID
UCSB New Freshman Scholarship $1200
Federal Pell Grant $5350
University of California Grant $5219
Federal Work-Study $1900
Federal Perkins Loan $2300
Recommended Subsidized Direct Loan $3500
Total Unofficial Need-Based Aid $ 19469

Total Unofficial Non-Need-Based Aid $ 0

UNOFFICIAL TOTAL (II plus III plus IV): (subject to verification) $27257

Also, it says that they use Cal Grant A for the calculations, but I only qualify for Cal Grant B, How will that affect my aid? Can someone help me understand this, thanks.

To view your financial aid stuff you must turn in your SIR?

^ to view ur official financial aid stuff

the ones out right now are unofficial and estimates based on wut u put on your fafsa

Hm, I don't know what to do then since it says when I log in and try to view it they can't find a match for my FAFSA. Would the time of when I sent in my FAFSA have something to do with this? I sent my FAFSA near the end but still on time.

I'm in the same situation, except I submitted by FAFSA on time. I'm almost 100% sure that, at least in my case, it has something to do with a mismatched social security number. When applying for the UC's, on the application it said that a social security number was "Optional" so I didn't enter one in. Needless to say, I wish I would have now because financial aid is becoming a pain since my social security number on my UC app (which is nothing...) doesn't match up with the one on the FAFSA.

Although I do hope someone can prove me wrong since those office hours times are really inconvenient to call at...

^ Yeah, I didn't put my SS number either because it was optional... *** am i supposed to do now.

Alright, I called them up and here's what I got:

-I called the Financial Aid Office and the Registrar's office. After a bunch of transferring, I got into the Admissions Office.

-The lady told me to fax a copy of my social security card (and then rewrite the number for clarity) and either my Application ID or Perm Number to 805-893-8779. Should probably write a note on that fax too, telling them the situation.

Stupid me couldn't use a fax machine and didn't know I had to push 1 before the number. lol.

:( no aid. all loans.

WCF, has your financial aid thing updated on the website yet? I just sent my thing in today so I wanted to know how long it'd be before they update it if it all.

No, mines hasn't updated yet, and I sent mine in on Thursday evening (after their office closes). The lady told me it should be updated within 48 hours, and I'm assuming that excludes weekends. So if I don't get an update by tomorrow, I'm going to give them another call.

Ok this is so annoying, It says I can check my unofficial UCSB aid after April 1st, yadi yadi and then when I click on it, It just gives me New Applicant

Your initial 2009-2010 FAFSA was received by the federal processor on 1/24/2009.

If you are admitted to UCSB, the Financial Aid Office will determine your unofficial financial aid eligibility and post it on this web site. Unofficial financial aid eligibility and other basic financial aid information will be posted beginning in early April. This eligibility will be based solely on the information you provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We will send you an e-mail when the Unofficial Award Letter is available for you to view. If you make changes to your FAFSA data after your Unofficial Award Letter is posted, we will not recalculate your eligibility and update your Unofficial Award Letter.

But it is April 7th, and the page before, says that I will able to get it April 1st, what am I not doing it's making me nuts.

My thing just updated to "Your initial 2009-2010 FAFSA was received by the federal processor on 2/21/2009." after turning in my SS on Monday!

Yeah I called them up today and the lady told me it was usually done instantly. I have no idea why mines wouldn't update... although I was having trouble with the fax machine, lol. She said she didn't do updates over the phone, but did anyway since I told her I already faxed it in last week. I had to email them to confirm I actually faxed it in. Hopefully it'll be up "within a few days."

Does your thing on the site still say they can't find it?

Yeah...this is a little frustrating. I'm going to call them up again tomorrow. How is yours doing?

My aid status updated to the unofficial award letter already. Call them to make sure they actually got your ss number.
