So I did the math, and after I complete my IGETC and all the major prep for a Sociology major, I will only have 39 units completed. That means I still need to get 21 more units to get to the 60 unit minimum to TAG. Does it matter where I get the rest of those 21 credits from? Since I would already have IGETC and major prep done, can I just take any UC transferable course to finish up my 60 units?
By “where I get those units from” are you referring to what classes you take, or where you take them (such as at a CC., online, etc)?
If the latter:
A) go to the ucsb tag page
B) click on the highlighted link with details about the TAG program
C) read item 3 under “Conditions of the Guarantee”
Oh I meant the former, what specific classes I would take to get the 21 units I will still need. Like if I take Introduction to Public Speaking (which is a CSU requirement but is also UC transferable), would it count towards my transferable credits with UCSB even though I do not technically need it? Sorry for the late reply.
in that case any UC-transferable units will do. So taking dual-purpose classes like public speaking is a good idea; 2 birds with 1 stone!
BTW I assume you are a frosh this year. Be sure to look at the TAG requirements http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/tag-matrix.pdf to understand when you must complete the math and english requirement to be TAG eligible. That link is for those entering Sept 2017 so just add a year on to everything if you are entering in Sept 2018.
