im going to be a freshman at UCSB this fall 2007 but i am planning on transferring to SC for fall 2008. the problem is, that i didn't get into an english/writing class for my fall quarter and i guess you have to take 2 semesters of a writing class to transfer? any advice???

im thinking of taking an english course at sbcc for fall semester and then try to get into an english class for winter and spring quarter...

and also, should i apply as a comm major for annenberg or would i have a better chance by declaring an art history major for the general school?

any general advice about transferring/experiences would be very very very much appreciated!

**oh! and my dad went to usc if that effects anything at all? i also have pretty much all the general ed requirements for my schedule..its just that damn english class... :-/

I can't offer any advice specifically, but one thing to keep in mind is that transferring from a 4-year university can be a bit different than transferring from a community college. For example, two quarters of writing at UCSB may very well be equivalent to 2 semesters at some community college, but I don't know about that.

If you call or email the admissions office, you can probably find out which courses at UCSB transfer well and what your specific requirements are.

well the difficult thing is that ucsb doesnt have an articulation agreement with usc. but i did have a meeting with an admissions counselor in june and she wrote out a whole schedule of classes for me to take and im on the right track with all the classes except the writing portion and i called the admissions office today and they made it sound that if i didnt take exactly 2 semesters of a writing class then i wouldnt get in..so this worries me..hah..

The Writing requirement is critical for USC prospective transfers . See if there is any way you can 'add' the english class at UCSB after the quarter starts, maybe someone will drop the course and open up a space.

I spoke with a USC counselor in the Santa Barbara region and she informed me that it isn't required that you take the writing courses before you transfer, however I don't know how much they consider that you take the said writing course....

you're probably going to get in because most transfers do, especially because your dad went here, and because usc will like how it sounds when someone transfers from a uc to usc. you probably applied as a freshman and didnt get in, but thats ok. usually people come from community colleges, but usc will feel prestigious having a uc person transfer, even if that means from ucsb.
