UCSB vs UC Davis for Econ

I'm having a tough time deciding between the two schools.
As far as both schools go

Pros of UCSB:
Closer to my family (I live 2 1/2 hours south of SB)
On the Beach (girls walking around in bikinis)
Better social scene than Davis
I have some friends that go there
Looks to have a better econ department (competitive and has a nobel laureate)

Cons:
I would still pre-major. (Have to go through rigorously curved econ class to make it to full major status; not easy)
Chance of spending too much time partying
Buildings look dated

UC Davis
Pros:
Guaranteed my major (a huge plus)
more girls (55-45)
Prettier campus buildings/foliage

Cons:
middle of nowhere. (any internship possibilities?)
Seems like econ department would take a backseat to the science/agro majors at Davis (nothing to back this up)

What school should I choose/ which would you pick?

Davis is not in the middle of the nowhere. It’s 15 miles by Sacramento. I’m certain there’s internship opportunities at our capital city. Economics is also ranked higher at UC Davis than at UC Santa Barbara. Not by much though.

Have you visited both campuses?

I just got back from visiting UCSB and I’m visiting UCD on the 10th.

Both schools have about the same level of prestige academically. you are doing the smart thing that you are by visiting both schools.

I say that you trust your hearth and go ‘Where the wild things are’

nice^ I think I am leaning towards Davis because I feel it would be a better fit; although, I won’t make a decision till after my visit.

out of curiosity, are you planning to do Econ Phd in the future or just your bachelor’s. If you are planning to do you Phd I hate to break to you but Econ B.A does not prepare you for a Econ Phd Program (who knew?). You would have to take more math (at least to Real Analysis) to make you a more competitive applicant (to a Phd program).

I thought about it when I first started college but I don’t like math nearly enough. You practically have to minor in math for econ PhD.

Exactly, to quote sweet born “ain’t nobody got time for that”
