UCSB Waitlist (Class of 2021)

They had over 1000 open spaces last year after the SIR day; I doubt they wouldn’t have a single spot this year.

Does anybody know the chances of getting off based on an appeal?]
I am a pre bio major

@hershey1071 - I guess it depends on how much NEW information that you were able provide in the appeal and how pertinent it is. Not sure how much new information than a good set of grades in the Fall semester can anyone provide.
It is a crapshoot, just like the regular admissions.

Thank you!

I sure hope they wouldn’t string us all along if they are full! That would be terrible.

this is serious torture…checking everyday lol

I am a parent of a waitlisted student. Spoke with admissions office two weeks ago. They told me about 6,000 people on the waitlist. SHe said they may not be able to take any but if they have any openings they will probably start notifying mid-may and finish by early June as accepted students withdraw. She did not sound too optimistic. I also understand that all waitlist students get an unofficial award letter. They are solely for the students benefit so they have an estimate of FA and mean nothing as to whether they are going to be accepted.

@MAD63 - Thanks for your message. It is probably not what everyone here wants to hear but since you have spoken with the admissions officer, your input has more credibility.
However, it is not possible for the admissions office to have a full picture up until yesterday. Last year UCSB had taken 1000+ applicants from the waitlist. Unless this year is dramatically different in terms of their outreach efforts in signing up admitted students, the situation may be similar.
Anyway, bottom line for us - Don’t get your hopes too high.

I just got off the phone with Admissions. There are 4000 on the waitlist. She said that their numbers were really good this year. Ugh. However, she stated that as of right now they will be admitting 200-300 off the waitlist this week and maybe another 200-300 over the next two weeks. She said they will post acceptances after 4pm on the days that they release them. She also implied that they would start today. She did say that they may admit more depending on the other UC waitlists and when they start accepting students off the waitlist. She said if you appealed and you are on the waitlist, you won’t hear any sooner than someone who didn’t appeal because it is just a numbers game at this point. They are hoping to finish by the end of May, but if things start shifting due to other UCs taking students off their list, they could recruit from the waitlist as late as June 30th.

I sure hope we all get good news.

@limbo2017 - Nice handle … It describes everyone on this thread
Thanks for saving us the necessity of a phone call. Fingers crossed for the 4:00 pm.
I am sure the UCSB Admissions Office also appreciates you posting this information here. It will save them perhaps hundreds of anxious phone calls.

@cricketfan- thanks! Limbo is definitely how we are all feeling. I hope people will post back if they get accepted! Good luck to all.

Just received an email from UCSB Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships with an unofficial award letter. Someone above mentioned that everyone has received these and they are no big deal. It is such a tease to get this one hour before they are about to let some of us off the waitlist.

The same thing happened to me. I got the email at three, got excited, and then super let down because my application status was still “waitlist applicant.”

If anyone gets in can u please make sure to tell us? thank you

Gah nothing yet :frowning:
