well they accept around 25,000 people for a class of about 5,000 so i assume a lot of people decline their offer of admission. @dood523
Can I still submit an appeal?
@ucsdbio2022 no sorry the deadline was april 15
I wish there was a way to check the # of people that SIR’d already… the wait is killing me
Does anyone know when we can expect appeal decisions?
@cwburke i assume we will hear back sometime after may 1st and before the end on june.
@sarwhal Do they usually come out before waitlist decisions?
@cwburke they usually come out at around the same time which is after may 1st because only then do they know how many spots they have open. but for obvious reasons they favor waitlisted applicants over appeals unless the information provided is really important.
@sarwhal I’m both, so hopefully that helps me out. Thanks!
From UCSB’s Common data sets:
For the class entering 2017:
6650 offered waitlist
4000 accepted waitlist
960 admitted off waitlist
http://bap.ucsb.edu/institutional.research/common.data.set.2017.18.pdf
From what I can gather the reps aren’t all on the same page because I have continuously recieved conflicting information.
That’s weird that the Common Data Set shows that as @Gumbymom posted this earlier in this thread
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 5830
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 3252
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 1351
Perhaps these are the 2016-2017 stats?
i heard other information about last year’s waitlist from an admissions officer that there were 8,000 students offered a place and about 600 were admitted. I’m unsure how many accepted a spot on the list though

So is it 8,000 or 5,000 that were offered a spot on the waitlist? Seems like the amount of people being offered a spot on the waitlist since 2015 has been steadily increasing by the year which is not the best sign for us.
@WinstonZayne Not if admissions are down.
What do you mean? UCSB received 12% more applications this year than last year.
@WinstonZayne Admissions, not applications.
Very true. Even if admissions were to go down though it would be nice if the 5,000 waitlist offers were true rather than the 8,000 because 1) that’s an enormous waitlist and 2) it increases our chances of admittance. No matter how low the admissions may be this year compared to other years (which may not even be the case) it can’t be denied that an 8,000 person waitlist will hinder all our chances.
Did anyone call to confirm the amount of people offered a spot or opting in to the waitlist?
