UCSB Waitlist Discussion Class of 2024

@happys i recommend first and foremost to go into UCSC with an open mind and not the mindset you’ll just ditch the school. Try to enjoy it as you haven’t even been there yet. Then afterwards you can decide if you want to transfer or not from actual experience.

@happys: UC’s only accept Junior level transfers so 60 semester/90 quarter units prior to transfer. Yes, you could transfer but most likely it would take you at least 2 years to complete the GE and major requirements. Also Community college transfers get priority over UC and CSU transfers.

I agree with @KristopherG24, that you need to give UCSC a chance. If after your Freshman year, you feel UCSC is not a good fit, then consider pursuing a transfer.

Best of luck.

Hi all,

I was accepted yesterday, after receiving a portal update. Back in March I was rejected, but later sent an appeal. Again, I was REJECTED, not WAITLISTED, and now accepted. I’m over the moon and will be committing tonight as UCSB was my first choice, but how did this happen? My appeal still says “Received-Decision Pending”, so could they have exhausted their waitlisted reserves and instead begun to accept previous rejects?

@KristopherG24 check out Appeal thread - soo many people got accepted on 5/18 on appeal after original rejection. That is at the same time as some people got off waitlist as well.

My D got accepted on appeal - now she too is a Gaucho!!
That shows that review and decisions of rejection appeals and waitlist appeals as well waitlist applications are happening at the same time.

still waitlisted for CS :expressionless: sent an appeal with 2 rec letters, and I have decent stats, essays, and ECs. Bummed

How were you notified if your portal still says decision pending? Was it an email?

When we logged in 5/18 around 8-9pm there was a congrats acceptance letter with the confetti … looked like a separate landing page. My son submitted SIR, set up email and housing registration etc, however main page still shows “Admission Status: You’re Admitted!” AND “Appeal Status: Received - Decision Pending” for whatever reason. I’m sure he got an email though I don’t access his personal inbox. The confetti letter isn’t there now, but sometimes when I log in to do the checklist it randomly shows up again. Just an IT thing, I think.

What are the chances of getting in off appeal if you appeal on the waitlist now? Is it too late? Also will appealing now hurt my chances on the waitlist?

@luluhunt: The appeal deadline was April 15th, sorry.

weird, the appeal button is still on my portal

I’m guessing they wouldn’t review any waitlist appeals after that deadline, despite the option to appeal still being there?

@yyu2002 What were your stats?

3.81 UW, 4.2 W, 7 APs 2 Honors, I had straight As starting junior year and I screwed up sophomore year, I was mock trial president and officer of 2-3 other clubs, elected onto school site council board, 33 ACT, I guess that counts as decent. My essays were decent as well.

are other people still on the waitlist too? or did most people get off first wave

in general? or for a specific major?

If there’s a glitch or they are extending the option to appeal, go for it asap. You never know.

@yyu2002 just in general, I am curious if other people are waiting for a wave still too. Feels like there hasn’t been another big wave for waitlist applicants since the beginning of May. Only last wave seemed to be for appeals

Yea true, kinda sad that I appealed and sent two recs and nothing happened

That’s really frustrating…I think anyone else on the waitlist still is probably feeling the same way…I know I am

Just got in today as undeclared (college of letters & Sciences) @ 3:07 PM. Deadline to SIR is 5/29. Just wanted to report this in case anyone was wondering if there was another wave. I’m also instate. Good luck to anyone who is still waiting. I hope for all the best for you guys.
