got ya... i got a question for ya... a friend told me they'd probably put me (a transfer student) is francisco Torres (f.t) dorms... do you know if they put transfer students in the f... towers? and-- how far are the f towers from the main campus?

I just hope you don't come to UCSB to party, CC. I'm dorming at Manzanita right now and lots of obnoxious drunkards from DP pass by my building on weekends...I sure hope these people graduate or get kicked out soon. I love to party but I'm very responsible and thoughtful of others who might be asleep or studying...It's all about respect bro.

I am usually never on campus at 5. I actually prefer night classes (6:45-9:50) over morning. Way Less crowded campus, more chill, mellow atmosphere, way easier parking. I had a profesor that would let us out an hour and a half earlier. I also like to sleep in.

I try to avoid the library in long semester, u can't even check ur email there. I go to the second floor of the science building, nice little computer lab. I do most of my studying at home and sometimes go to LRC (second floor of science building if i need help in Chem. It's kinda far so less people go there. Cayton is the place i hate. It's gets so hot there and crowded at around 11. Proly cause they offer free printing.

Thanks again for recomending parking on Ashland. It has been really great so far.

LOL...mainly freshmen live in FT. I'm sure you'll be in MV or San Raf. But you have to win a space first through the lottery if you're a transfer student. Don't even think of Santa Ynez and other UCSB owned apt. Least chance of getting a spot. My current roomie picked Santa Ynez as his first choice but since he hasn't won a space through the apt. lottery, he's waitlisted for res. halls.

wellendowed... where are the f.t's? how far from campus?miles?blocks?minutes?bike?car?walk?

i heard that dorms are offered to all transfer students?if i put m.v or san raf. will i get a spot? I dont even care where they put me... on the campus would be best...

You're posting at the wrong thread.

Nope, transfers wishing to dorm are entered on a lottery. You have a good chance of getting a space if you pick Residence Hall ( MV, San Raf) as your first and second choice. It really all depends on the demand for housing on campus. I heard lastyear everyone who applied for the lottery were given contracts as few people applied than what was allocated for transfer students. For Continuing students like myself, dorm allocation is 1000 students.

FT is not that far really and there are mini buses every 15 mins. to take students to the campus. But most people bike here. I heard it's cool to be at FT because floor parties and less restrictions. But upper division students are assigned spaces in San Rafael and MV. I bet you'll love Manzanita Village. It's very close to Del Playa.

sweet... as long as i have a good chance... 75%?--- i'll put m.v and and s.r... i dont care where the building is.. i dont even mind living in the f.t as long as its not a long walk to campus..

I'd say you have a 95% chance. Most of the students in my building will be living in IV next year. I'll still be dorming as it's very convenient. It's nice to wake up 20 mins. before my class starts heheh.

Arggh... you guys keep hijacking the subject of this thread. We should all consider creating a "UC Battle Royale" thread so that all you grumpy elitists can argue about the hierarchy of the UC system. Anyways, aside from the whole rankings debate, you at least have to acknowledge that UC santa cruz offers a greater opportunity for academic progress and achievement than the general CSU system. you guys make it seem like UCSC is some bottom feeding moron college, which is an incredulous notion. Seriously though, can we setup a uc santa barbara thread or a "ucsc vs. the world" thread? hehe anyways, im going to repost my last post in case it was lost in the number of unrelated posts...cc did you get into ucsb? i hope so for my sake jk :). really though good luck if you havent heard yet....

RE-POST:
thanks, you confirmed what I had suspected. I think i am going to go for kresge first choice unless I hear anything bad about it in the meantime. The one unfortunate thing I have found is that nobody really has anything bad to say about it mostly because no one really knows that much about kresge. That may be a plus though. But even as you implied, there are going to be superficial a-holes all over campus. Though, even from the beginning, i suspected kresge would be the best. Do you know if the apartments in kresge have single bedrooms for the most part? I am attracted to the apartments at kresge, but this is on the assumption that most have single bedrooms. Apartments arent really that appealing if its just like a bunch of doubles with a shared kitchen. Again, thank you so much for your help.

Oh and whats the music scene on campus? are there many bands/shows? do you know anything about the music co-op's at kresge? thanks!!

Dude, UCSC is a great school. It deserves to be part of the UC System. Let's not even talk about CSU lol.

thank you. You have no idea how nice that sounds after the bombardment of insults i have recieved for just wanting to participate in a ucsc related school.

kid, i don't recall any insults other than when u or someone else said that grades, SAT scores, and admission rates do not play a major role in evaluating a school. Everyone incluiding myself said that they didn't mean to offend ur school at all. I don't know why u bring this topic up again.
