UCSC Fall 2016 Transfer Tread

UCSC does hate me lol

Accepted as of this morning.

CC transfer
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.35 (re-entry with a strong upward trend, 3.85 over last two years)
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done
Pre-reqs: Mostly done, but I believe I took the wrong Calculus series
EC: Volunteer with the elderly, part-time bookkeeper, PTK
Accepted: UCSC, UCD (TAG)
Rejected: None yet
Pending: UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCB

I’m fairly certain that I would choose UCD over UCSC if everywhere else rejects me, but it feels good to log on to a portal and finally see something good after months of nothing. Good luck everyone!

Reject
GPA 3.51
Pre-reqs- currently taking statistics, 1 In progress
Major: Psych

I am going to appeal because I really love UCSC and there is no reason on my application of why it was denied.
this is all it says
“Thank you for your interest in attending UC Santa Cruz. Your application for admission for the fall quarter 2016 has been reviewed, and unfortunately, you do not currently meet our campus selection criteria as a junior transfer. We received nearly 10,000 transfer applications for a projected enrollment of 1,250 student and there are many fine students whom we were unable to accommodate”

So I just called admissions and records and they said that my application got denied because I didn’t take an Intro to philosophy or intro to physics. But I don’t see those classes listed on assist for my major :frowning: thats why I didnt take those classes

What the hell. Those classes weren’t listed anywhere?

No, not on UCSC or assist :frowning:

I feel like I should have had called UCSC to evaluate my transcripts but I trusted using assist.

Wait, you’re a psych major and they wanted you to take into to physics???

@futureuctransfer I took intro to philosophy because UCLA wanted it for psych. I think you should appeal on the grounds that those courses aren’t listed as major prerequisites.

@Mznl8090 Haven’t gotten mine yet either. Who knows when we’ll get em.

@futureuctransfer are you sure they aren’t requiring it for IGETC?

@100789 Yeah bro. I have no idea how I got in. Mathematics must not be impacted this year. Regardless of my gpa, I really do like math though, and maybe they saw that??? Ive gotten all As in my math and science pre-reqs but a ton of Cs and Ws in my non math courses which brought my gpa down. I’m pretty excited to go there and start on a clean slate. Congrats to everyone that got in.

@VanessaNuno I finished all of my igetc courses but the admissions office told me it was for my major… I can ask them again though, and @100789 I am a psych major they did say into to physics… But I had taken an intro to bio a few semesters ago specifically for igetc… I will appeal because this is a major bummer

@100789 did you take intro to physics too? or did you see it anywhere listed that its required?

That seems weird that Intro to Physics would be a major requirement for Psychology. It doesn’t say it on their ASSIST page, even though it’s for 2014-2015 and not the 2015-2016 agreement, but I searched all over the website and it still doesn’t list it. I know this is a dumb question, but did you accidently list on your UC application that you are a Physics major and not a Psychology major?

@boxandwhiskers lol thanks for making me laugh when I’m so sad! I actually checked that on my UC app too and it says psych.

So maybe it’s a mistake on their part?

The worst case scenario is if UCB rejects me, I will tag to UCSC for next year. It will all be okay

No, I applied to Davis, Merced, University of San francisco, and UCLA. I just like the location of UCSC and Berkeley better.

I would consider Davis, it just really depends on housing for me.
