UCSC Fall 2016 Transfer Tread

Holy crap I’m getting nervous :S Everyone seems to be getting their decisions and I have nada

I still havent heard back yet. I also realized my gpa is 3.26 oops. It’s been on an upward trajectory. I applied for UCSC’s TAG also but got denied honestly for bullshit reasons. They changed one of their requirements this year and it wasn’t listed consistently/accurately on their website.

Accepted as of Saturday!

Major: Environmental Studies
GPA: 3.75
IGETC: done
Applied: UCSC
Pre-reqs: missing 2-3/4
TAG: UCSC… but it was rejected

Does everyone get the Statement of Legal Residence on the to do list AFTER they have SIR?

Anyone else still waiting on financial aid awards? Just tried to call and couldn’t get through.

Hello I have been following the UC Transfer threads very carefully and I thought I would share some insight.

Accepted into Psychology 4/15/2016.

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.2
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Will get certified after Spring 2016 semester
Applied: UCI,UCD,UCB,UCLA,UCSD,UCSC
Rejected: UCSB
Accepted: UCSC
Pre-reqs: Missing 1
Volunteer: UCI hospital, Kids football foundation
Work: Consultant at medical startup, restaurant job, file clerk
Additional information: Currently a transferring student attempting to transfer out of a CC after 2 years.I happened to miscalculate the total amount of credits I needed when I was converting a UCI summer course from quarter units to semester units which resulted in me being 2 quarter units shy. I called UCSB and they informed me that the reason for my rejection was cause of the lack of credits. I have an upward trend in my GPA and my units taken each semester have significantly increased to where I am currently taking 21 credits this semester. It’s interesting that I was not rejected immediately as that seemed to have been the case for UCSB.

@BlackPlasma I filled out everything up until payment for SIR (step 7 I think) and now under my to do list is says: “residency status determined” and under status: “completed”. What does your to do list say?

@avery760
It says more information needed so I have to do it. Though my situation is weird because the due date is 4/15. I originally "accidentely SIR to UCSC when I did not mean to so I called admissions and they reset it for me. Heres the thing now when I go to click to start the SIR process it says “UCSC is now your university” stuff but it never stays like that as when I always go back to view application it just says congratulations on being admitted instead of saying the UCSC was now my university. The system is letting me redo SIR over and over again and it never sticks.

Due to that my Statement of Legal residency disappeared (when I originally submitted SIR it was in the tab as an option) under “my student center” tab and I can’t really start it.

Got accepted yesterday.

I applied for Electrical Engineering, but requested change to Computer Engineering.

GPA around 3.4-3.5

Out of state, if that matters (I assumed it did).

How do I find out what courses transfer?

@SquidWardT

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that we can see the course transfer breakdown officially, but if a course is lower decision and mirrors another course at the UC in title and course description then you can pretty much assume that it will transfer. Unless your four year occurred some weird engineering specific courses, then you can expect that your general math and science courses will transfer.

Additionally, since you are a four year applicant, I am going to assume that you have not exceed 60 units by that much because of the unit cap, which means that all but one or two of your courses must have transferred or you would have been automatically rejected for not having 60 transferable units.

Thanks, @TheVisionary .

I just worry because I have the lower division programming, but there are a few freshman courses like Assembly Language, that I don’t have (not at my school).

I have 3 semesters of programming, so I don’t know if I will bypass Assembly or will have to do it after transferring.

I’m out of state from a semester based school so it’s really hard to tell what courses match what.

Will I, at any point, get to know what transfers as what?

still waiting

@SquidWardT

We will definitely find out soon after accept the admissions offer at whichever UC we attend. We should also be able to speak with academic counselors beginning next month. For now, I would make sure that you keep copies of the syllabus from those courses. If you do not have them then see if you can get the professor that you have to email you them. That is what you will use to petition out of a course that only covers subjects that you have already studied.

Got accepted as of today for Robotics Engineering. GPA 3.12!

By the way, I was also one those “checking on the status every few hours” people. So just to let you guys know, when you click on “application status and info” tab, it’ll show 3 options instead of 2 if they made a decision!

Hi you guys, I’ve recently been accepted as a Business Mgmt Econ major! I kind of have a slight problem and was wondering if anyone might know anything :confused:

You HAVE to fulfill your major req’s by the end of spring term prior to transfer right? I’m doing badly in Calc 1 and thinking about dropping it (the withdraw deadline is soon for my cc). I’m worried it would jeopardize my acceptance… under the major prep section on their website, my Calc 1 course satisfies one of the major requirements

However they also say:

“While it is not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to have completed lower-division mathematics and statistics courses required for their intended economics major prior to enrolling at UCSC.”

Highly doubt it, but do you think it’s only recommended to have prior to transfer, and/if maybe I can take it once I get there?

I hate this class I don’t want it to be the only reason I don’t get in

@TopKahu Hi! Could I ask, what do you mean you might have taken the wrong calc series? It might help me out cos i’m thinking of dropping calc, and I dont know if that’d affect my acceptance :confused:

@UCmathematics Hi! You got in with missing 2 pre-req’s? Are these major requirements? Just wondering because i’m thinking of dropping a major requirement course and seeing if I can still be accepted >___<

No one do anything! First contact admissions and ask them!! No one here will know for sure, so please do not make such an IMPORTANT decision based on informatIon you read here.

I don’t see what is taking so long to hear back from UCSC. Son accepted at UCSB for Psychological and Brain Sciences weeks ago… This is like watching a race in slow motion. It’s just interesting how UCSB sent out acceptance so quickly and UCSC is dragging it out. Best of luck to all who are waiting and wondering!

Congrats, @teejayjay !

Might meet you there (computer engineering).
