UCSC TAG Question

I was wondering. I want to apply for the TAG at UCSC, but I don't meet the minimum class completion requirement to be able to apply for the TAG. In the upcoming Fall semester I will take two of the classes which by then, will qualify me for TAG. However, this will mean that I will be too late to sign-up for transfer for Fall of 2018 and will have to wait and apply for Fall of 2019. As a result, this will leave a almost a year gap between acceptance of TAG and starting school at UCSC. Will this year gap cause any issues with the TAG application or for that matter, future employment?

P.S.
I have completed my GE courses and want to use this to ensure acceptance as my GPA is 3.0 and want to apply for Electrical Engineering, which requires a somewhat high GPA.

What are you missing?

  1. Do you have 30 units from anywhere by end of this summer?
  2. Will you have completed first English and math by fall?
  3. EE requires 4 core courses with a 3.0 by end of summer.

If no to 1 or 2 you cannot apply for TAG. If no only to 3, you can TAG to another major.

  1. Yes I have more than 30 units by summer (way more lol).
  2. Yes I have actually completed the math and English requirements.
  3. No, I have not completed 4 of the 6 classes required for the major.

I am aware that I can apply to another major, however I run into the same issue with majors similar to Electrical engineering.

The only thing I’m wondering is since I can’t apply for the TAG this year for Fall 2018, I will have to apply for TAG next year for Fall 2019. However by then, I will have actually finished all 6 required classes to transfer therefore leaving about a year gap between applying for TAG next year and and transferring Fall 2019. I was wondering if this has any effects to the TAG application or for that matter any other negative effects other then the fact that I would technically be off school for a year.

Applying next year is no big deal. Julst TAG in Sept 2018 for fall 2019.

You can always apply through regular admission, this way there’s a chance you won’t have to take a gap year.

^^ yes, although 3.0 in EE is unlikely to get you in without TAG.

^^ I think unlikely is the wrong word to use. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
Check out that link. Last year the enroll GPA range for EE was 3.00 - 3.64
Go ahead and apply, have some hope. As long as you have a 3.0 or higher I think you have a decent shot.

The admit rate was 3.21-3.64. The enroll rate of 3.0 were likely TAG people. But sure, there’s no harm in trying and OP could be successful. Unlikely might have been too strong a word.
