What is this uncapped UC GPA that is weighted 4500 points? I've heard that it is capped at 8 semesters of AP, but on the UCSD website it says its 8 AP courses which is 16 semesters...

someone clarify. THanks

it's 8 classes.

there's no way they'd count by semesters because some schools split up AP courses differently -- at my high school, APUSH was a two year/four semester ordeal.

who was your source, anyway?

just for clarification, to calculate your uc gpa, you would only take your 10th and 11th grades and you would add a point to AP classes, so if your took AP Bio for 2 semesters and you added a point for each semester, is that 1/8 or 2/8 ? this is the part that confuses me. also, if you are oos, then you do not count honors classes right?
thanks!

It is 8 semesters of UC Approved Honors/AP courses. There are some honors courses that are not UC Approved, so you can not add a point for them.
Same thing goes for OOS.

So pretty much this is how it goes
you have 4 Honors/AP approved year long courses
You can add 8 points to your GPA. like if you get a B (3 becomes a 4) or A (4 ->5)
if you have more than 4 UC approved Honors/AP courses (assuming they're year long) you can not add points for those extra honors/AP courses because it is capped at 8 semester points.

It is not 8 classes. It's 8 semesters.
This again, is for only 10-11th grade courses only.

^
If you took Ap Bio for 2 semesters then yes, you would add a point to each semester assuming you got a C- or higher in the class. And that would account 2 of the 8 points you will be able to use.

ok if you read the website, it says 8 UC approved AP classes. so how do you know that youre right?

They calculate your UC GPA by taking the final semester grades of classes you took 10th-11th grade.

I think what ^ means by class is like Precalculus 1 is what you would take fall semester and is ONE class on its own and Precalculus 2 is what you take after precalculus 1 in the spring. THAT also counts as a class.

I dont know how other schools name their classes but at my high school we designated numbers to classes by semester.
Fall you might take chem 1, geometry 1, french 1. Then spring chem 2, geo 2, french 2, etc.

Just take out your final semester report cards and use the final grades.

and only 8 grades can be given the extra 1.
