So I'd like to know what everyone's stats, majors, tag, igetc, etc.
Also too with the impacted situation what's your alternative major/ major you're going to settle for if you get denied your bio?
What math series did you take? (because you're choice of math/physics matters to your major)
The 200 students limit really sucks. I called UCSD today and I asked if it was 200 by major but they said 200 in whole department which is not cool....

I took the math 10 series (UCSD). I guess i have to settle for psychology because that's what fits my classes i have done the most. I dont think/ not sure if i want to go back and redo math. -____- .....someone shed light

there are two routes of calc/physics…on assist there’s either math 10 series or math 20 series (on the UCSD side) you take either/ or, in some cases both calc classes depending on the major.

you told me you took the easier calc so that means (i’m guessing) you took math 10 series. you said you wanted to do a chem major and i looked at the chem pre reqs and math 10 series isnt part of the requirements it’s only math 20 series. so since i’m basically in the same boat i can’t even do a chemistry major because they all require math 20.

i didnt get a chance to ask when the next batch comes because i was asking about the whole bio major thing, it slipped my mind. i figured it comes out when it comes out.

and i changed it, i sent the email and everything so we’ll see. i guess my main concern for now is just getting an acceptance letter. they said that the can’t deny my admission if i met all the TAG requirements even if i’m denied both majors so ill just deal with it then. in the meantime i’ll have try to find a different major that fits my math classes

i just want to know if any other bio majors are in the same situation…

Math 20 series = calc 1, 2, 3 ( math and science majors)
Math 10= calculus short-course.

I think for biochem, you really should have taken the math 20 series. You may have screwed yourself by not taking it, and yeah, you’ll probably have to settle for psychology if you plan on getting admitted.

Major: Human Bio Alt: Molecular Bio
GPA= 3.89
TAG: Yes
Pre-Reqs, I took Calc 1 and Calc 2 (did not take Calc 3), I also took 2 quarters of Gen Chem and 1 quarter of Org Chem, no labs, so I don’t know if that meets the prereqs or not. the 2 quarters of Gen chem are from UCLA Extension and they cover almost all of the Gen chem book that UCSD uses, they just take out stuff they don’t believe is necessary for a life science major. I’m scared of my prereqs not being on par to what UCSD is looking for.

*Molecular and cellular Biology (Majors)
*Physics Mechanics, electr/magn, and heat, light, waves.
2nd quarter of organic chem.
*Gen chem Lab and Organic Chem Lab
calculus III

Okay, what you need to find out is, how many of these classes were not offered or did not have an appropiate transferable course.
Either than that, you have a good GPA and probably a decent chance. Although, the way tag works is you’re surpposed to put down a non-impacted major as your alt.

yeah when i started out biochem wasn’t impacted and they didnt have that 200 student limit. since that was the case i just took the easier math because i was set on ucsd. the counselor i talked to said it would be fine…that was the plan. so yeah this sucks balls…so its either psychology or environmental chemistry. and im pretty sure there arent any loop holes to getting around it too because you really do need the math and physics for it.

Well I’ve done all the classes that transfer over as BILD 1, 2 3. And the chem series at ucla covers all of organic and general chem and it is 14A, 14B, 14C, 14D, 14BL, 14Cl.
14a-14b cover general Chem, 14c and 14d and the second half of 14b cover organic chem. I will have completed 14a,14b,14c by end of spring. UCSD only requires 1 semester of organic chem no? So 1.5 quarters would equate to that, so I think the only pre reqs I would be mission is the lab sections of ggen/ochem as well as calc 3?

Not sure, you’ll probabaly be pkay missing just calc 3 and labs.

@Raacheeel
You’re in a really sticky situation, aren’t you? I guess hope and pray you’ll get in for Biochem at UCSD, or settle for your alt/ go to a different school. IS SD your first choice?

Major: General Biology Alt: Psychology
GPA: 3.90
Pre-reqs: 2 semesters of Calc, 2 semesters of gen bio, 2 semesters of gen chem, 2 semesters of organic chem (all my sciences w/ lab)

I’m an OOS applicant though so i probably have a lower chance than most of the other transfers which really sucks. But is physics part of the pre-req list for all the bio majors? Cause I haven’t taken physics yet, but I plan to next year.

Out of State. I hate this so much, the wait. I should have gone out of highschool when they first accepted me. I haven’t done my physics here either. I really don’t want to spend another semester in this hell hole.
