Hi, everyone. I will be majoring in data science in UCSD at Marshall College. Currently, I looked up at the G.E. requirements for Marshall and I am not sure that how many AP credits could I use. Here are the six AP’s I passed in high school:
APUSH 4
AP Calculus AB 5
AP Chinese 5
AP Gov & Poli of the U.S. 4
AP Macro 4
AP Comp Sci Prin 4
If I did not misinterpret the requirements for Marshall, I have 3 credits for the 15 credits G.E.??
Correct me if I am wrong and feel free to explain the details about Marshall’s G.E., thank you!!!
useful tool that simplifies it for you – https://ucapcredit.com/ but it seems like you have 36 units coming in. (This tool has CS A, not CS Prin).
– APUSH: You get 8 units and get an American history req. done (Univ)*
– APCSP: You are exempt CSE 3 and get 8 units.
– Calc AB: You are exempt MATH 20A and get 4 units, as well as 1/2 of your math req done for marshall
– AP Macro: You get 4 units.*
– AP Chinese: You are exempt a language class and get 8 units.*
– AP Gov: You get 4 units.*
For the starred classes, in marshall’s GEs you have to have a disciplinary breadth. This means you can choose a set of classes outside your field of study and take classes for them. https://marshall.ucsd.edu/academics/general-education-requirements.html#Disciplinary-Breadth
So you can use those starred classes to exempt a course or two of disciplinary study. However you still need to take upper div disciplinary study classes.
