UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

I would have assumed that too except I’m white and both of my parents graduated from college. It could be because I live in San Diego and they were bringing in local students. Also, I have no idea what DS stands for. It’s cool we have all the same stuff though. @Momofsenior2017

@NinjaMaster24 I could be wrong but I believe the overnight thing was sent out to everyone. I got it anyways, and I’m not regents… you do have to submit an application, though, and last I checked the engineering one was already full :frowning:

@tamano You sure you’re not regents for UCSD? It tells ya in the financial aid estimate portion. I didn’t get the email but some friends did and it seems to be an invite only thing.

@NinjaMaster24 tbh I’m not 100% sure… my finanical aid info and application got mixed up probably bc of my complicated name, so it only tells me that there’s an error with my info when I go to the financial aid estimate. That’d be cool if I did end up as a regents tho :smiley:

https://overnight.ucsd.edu/ is the link they gave us to apply, maybe try going to the website? I did have to sign in to access it tho, so you might be prevented from accessing it.

edit: now I notice the part that says “special invitation” on my email lol (but I still don’t know how I was chosen for that)

@tamano Hmm… that link just sent me to a “Spaces” website for UCSD once signed in, not sure how exactly that works :stuck_out_tongue:

@NinjaMaster24 weird, mine takes me to the program application. They must redirect you if you weren’t sent the email :frowning:

@tamano I suppose so, sigh, makes me worried about the rest of my apps to go if I cant even get regents for UCSD.

I got accepted into chemical engineering and I know ucsd is more known for biomedical or other engineering majors, but i was just wondering if people knew how it compared or if it is a good program?

@fdestef Jacobs School of Engineering brings in like a quarter billion dollars a year for research. It’s impressive. I also remember at Triton Day one of the speakers was a Chem E who was putting herself through school doing paid internships as she was attending. She also pursued her major abroad in one quarter.

@laggywifi Marshall was my first and I got ERC, if you wanna switch ;)))

@laienanan I think “DS” refers to “Daughter/Son” or well, that’s what I’ve been guessing; people on a large current parent forum here on college confidential use this abbrev. when referring to their applicant son or daughter. At first I thought “my DS” meant “my dear son” but over time it seemed they meant “Daughter or Son”. I guess it rubbed off on me. But oh well; my DS didn’t get invited for ucsd overnight … will try to make it to Triton Day tho.

@Momofsenior2017 I’ve actually been wondering about that for a long time too, thanks for that insight hahaha

Accepted to SLO; first choice.
Waiting on UCSB.

@NinjaMaster24 What do you mean “can’t even get regents at UCSD”?? It’s really hard to get regents for any UC school. I’d even guess that someone who got regents at UCSD has a good shot at getting into an ivy league school.

I was hoping I could get in despite my low ACT score. So far I have been accepted to my flagship state school (University of Oklahoma) but I am waiting on applications from a variety of top schools. (Bowdoin, UCLA, Cal, UC Irvine, Wesleyan, Lehigh, etc.
Congrats to everyone who got in to UCSD! It as an amazing school and its basically on the beach so that is awesome! I wish you all the best in life and the remainder of this admission cycle for the class of 2017!

From what I’ve heard about undeclared is that the majors that you chose are filled up so they put you as undeclared. Apparently this makes picking your major more challenging in the future… But I’m not 100% sure.

Accepted
Bioengineering (this was my second choice major. First choice major was Cognitive Science)
ERC
SAT: 1450
GPA UW: 3.7
UC GPA: ~4.1

CONGRATS to those who got in! Hope to meet a few of you at Triton Day.
Not getting a scholarship or FA really dims my chances of attending. Any advice for seeking aid?

I didn’t get an overnight invite. Am I supposed to?

@transmitter2342 how weird is that??? They moved you out of Cog Sci into an impacted major? 8-}

@lkg4answers hahaha i know

@transmitter2342 from what I can tell, not everyone got an overnight invitation; I have no clue what the criterion was, but apparently those of us who did were “selected” from the pool of admits.
